By RAHIM FAIEZ and KIMBERLY DOZIER | Associated Press 3/10/2013

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday accusedthe Taliban and the U.S. of working in concert to convince Afghans thatviolence will worsen if most foreign troops leave an allegation the topAmerican commander in Afghanistan rejected as "categorically false."
Karzai said two suicide bombings that killed 19 people on Saturday oneoutside the Afghan Defense Ministry and the other near a police checkpoint ineastern Khost province show the insurgent group is conducting attacks todemonstrate that international forces will still be needed to keep the peaceafter their current combat mission ends in 2014.

Pentagon needs something to prove that military must be exempt from sequestration?

Or a move to increase troops there for coming war on Iran?

Even Karzai saw something over there.

It's actually the Military Industrial complex, the defense contractors who get billions in monies given to Israel and other nations for "aide" to buy their weapons who are the ones arranging for the weapons to be sold to each side. It's just for profit, People, these wars. There's no terrorist boogeyman.

The really sad part, is that I believe Karzai more than my own government.

As numerous former U.S. diplomats e.g., Amb. Eikenberry, have commented in the past, Mr. Karzai is unreliable. Amb. Eikenberry's assessment was spot-on.

Very likely, this is yet another attempt to deflect blame from the Karzai regime's mounting failures to develop an effective and legitimate government. This latest outburst once more illuminates the shortcomings of the United States's having embraced a Karzai/Kabul-centric approach under President Bush and then sustained it under President Obama.

IMO, at this late stage of the game, the best remaining strategy is for the U.S. to implement its planned drawdown of troops consistent with the established timelines. Behind the scenes, the U.S. should make crystal clear to Karzai he is not indispensable as far as U.S. interests and foreign policy are concerned. Karzai, whose primary focus remains his regime's survival, would understand that there are real limits to his reckless behavior and might begin to rein it in.

I agree! It is sheer lunacy that my own government has lied so much that it doesn't have one shred of legitimacy left.

Our government can verify it's protestations easily. If Karzai is lying, simply cut off all funds to Afghanistan and remove all US military immediately.

Karzai has just handed Obama an 'exit strategy' from Afghanistan on a silver platter. One which he should take. When your ally you are there to support is using you to curry favor with others, time to go.
