So go to work an hour earlier and go home an hour earlier. The numbers on the clock are arbitrary.

    This.

I've always found it humerous that we play these mind tricks on ourselves. It's like setting your alarm clock 10 minutes early so you can oversleep longer.

How about we just leave our clocks alone, get up an hour earlier and get home an hour earlier? Deal?

Yes, but circadian rhythms are not arbitrary, and we being creatures of this planet, are subject to those rhythms. Our biological clocks are governed by the sun and the seasons.

The people who suffer the most for this clock setting silliness are the youngsters whose very growth and health are VERY MUCH controlled by these rhythms.

But lawyers play alot of golf, and lawyers write the laws, so screw the kids and their bothersome growth patterns.

The circadian rhythm is not dictated by which digit appears on your clock. It is dictated by when you get up. If you wake up 20 minutes after sunrise, it doesn't matter whether the clock says 6:20, 7:20, or just has a picture of a lemon tart.

So what if you don't get "flex hours?" The number on the clock aren't arbitrary when you're employment commitments adhere to that number.

Exactly right. My point is that for those having to be certain places at certain times, the excessive use of DST interupts the circadian rhythms. A bit of legislation induces jetlag, if you will. And those who pay the heaviest price for that induced jetlag are the youngsters who are still growing and need those last few hours of sleep. Sure, adults pay a price too, but those still growing need it more. Essentially, elements of their healthy growth is compromised for the sake of golf-playing and other leisure pursuits.

I do not object to DST itself, but I think we have gone far overboard at 8 months out of 12.
