So last month a TSA investigator snuck a fake bomb through the security...in his pants...and wa cleared to take off. I figured I would post this here because it is just new up now.

What do you guys think? Reactions?

My personal response was along the lines of the gun control debate concept(not what thread is about mods who might be anxious to move it). The whole concept of being "secure" now is not correct. I think we are a quick fix society and don't understand that any security measure can't be defeated by time. There are only so many freedom we can give up too. So with that in mind. I think that TSA might look into detection methods. But how much can be done without sticking fingers inside people's private parts? Do we as a society fear too much?

Shouldn't the thread title be "Fake Bomb Snuck Through Newark"?

There will always be holes in a security net.

What I would like to know is how many of these attempts were made and the TSA did catch them and prevent them from getting on the plane.

There will always be outliers, but if the greater percentage of TSA workers prevent these fake security breaches, then I think, on the whole, they're doing a pretty good job.

Andthe laws prohibiting rape, murder, theft, etc are also imperfect so let's get rid of them too

Maybe it wasn't detected because it was fake. Since we're missing a link, we can only assume. Heck, I could put a toilet paper roll in my pocket and say I sneaked a fake bomb through TSA.

Jeesh. Just had to Google fake bomb Newark:
./
Fake bomb got past Newark airport screeners, report says | Fox News

I sure do wish people would include links. I'm amazed at how many posters don't bother. Not enough information to really tell if they should've caught it. Didn't say how fake fake was.

Well, given their reputation for misinformation, I'd say I don't believe a story from FOX news.

Fox News - Most Misinformed | Study - Maryland | Mediaite

Researchers at the University of Maryland have released a study of news viewers entitled, “Misinformation and the 2010 Election” (.pdf) and found news viewers often get the wrong idea on major stories, and–according to the study–Fox News viewers are the “most misinformed” of them all.

Of course, one could argue that the academic world is the province of progressive thought, filled with many individuals who’ve developed a distaste in Fox News’ unique brand of opiniotainment. Nonetheless, the study is interesting regardless of one’s point of you and even suggests that the more someone watches Fox, the more misinformed they get.

According to the researchers, daily Fox News viewers–regardless of their political party affiliation–were “significantly” more likely than non-Fox viewers to believe:

Most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely)

Most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points)

The economy is getting worse (26 points)

Most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points)

The stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points)

Their own income taxes have gone up (14 points)

The auto bailout only occurred under Obama (13 points)

When TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points)

And that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States (31 points)

The suggestion that Fox News viewers are “misinformed” comes after a series of leaked memos from Fox News Washington bureau chief Bill Sammon that gave specific coverage guidelines on hot button issues like health care and climate change.

But it’s not just Fox News viewers who are misinformed, as Talking Points Memo reports:

Daily consumers of MSNBC and public broadcasting (NPR and PBS) were higher (34 points and 25 points respectively) in believing that it was proven that the US Chamber of Commerce was spending money raised from foreign sources to support Republican candidates. Daily watchers of network TV news broadcasts were 12 points higher in believing that TARP was signed into law by President Obama, and 11 points higher in believing that most Republicans oppose TARP.

though i completely understand your point about Faux news, and if they said the sky was blue i would actually have to check that it was still in fact blue, you need to go do the search to find out they were not the only people who reported this. I do agree Maggie probably should have went with one of the easily selected non faux sources just to avoid the taint of faux, she at least did the search no one else could be bothered to to find out their info. And she was nice enough to actually take the effort to post a link even the OP couldn't be bothered with.

Never said she was wrong to do it. And if FOX news is the source, it should be pointed out that they, and the others listed, are not to be taken as credible. The smarter this nation gets, the better off we will all be.

I don't recall saying we should get rid of security sangha. Why are you trying to put words like that into my mouth?
