I think putting up a Satellite into space successfully is what caused the DOD to accept the fact that they could now indeed hit the US.....West Coast not East.
Also I think it was due to when the NKoreas alluded to the issue that they did not need to hit the US. But rather blow off the Nuke in a way Cause a Magnetic Pulse. Which would bring almost everything with electronics to a dead stop. That's if they could get them to detonate over the US.
Oh, and that one little missile won't be hit by interceptors or anti-nuclear measures?
There is no nuclear threat. The biggest security threat the North poses is its enormous artillery aimed at the Seoul Metropolitan Area (otherwise known as Kyeongki-do), and the fact that it's the economic heart of the country, houses the capital and its politics, and has a population of 20 million people, or 40% of the country's total population. That and the fact that refugees could come pouring over the Chinese border, which is why China wants to prevent a collapse of the North regime
