As obama threatens us with layoffs and releases illegal immigrants he keeps hiring more fed workers. That pretty much shows how full of crap this idiot is.

"Monday marked the first regular workday under sequestration, and federal agencies posted more than 400 job ads by 6 p.m.
At a time when nearly all of those agencies are contemplating furloughs, the help-wanted ads raised questions about how agencies should decide between saving through attrition or letting people go."

"At the Homeland Security Department, which just days ago announced it was releasing some low-priority illegal immigrants from jails to await removal, the agency in charge of deportations advertised for an assistant to help with deportations.
The annual salary for the job is $60,765, enough to detain one immigrant for about 500 days".

They need more people to round up gun owners. ;)

Federal furlough 101: Consider the real affect of a 14 day "emergency" furlough on that $60,765/year federal job; you get 14 extra days off (are the fish biting?), without ANY pay (yet keep full benefits) which reduces your effective salary by $3,269/year so you get "only" $57,496/year for that federal job. Of course, when the agency budget gets restored then you return to the full normal pay and work schedule. After 12 months, barring an unsatisfactory rating, you get a pay "step increase" of about $2,000/year so that furlough "pain" goes away rather quickly. ;)

Yes indeed.

Another example from today's news - while the Obama admin claims that because of the sequester they can no longer provide the necessary personnel to keep security lines moving, they're spending $50,000,000 on new TSA uniforms!!

This is not true for all federal employees. Keep in mind that those who caused all this will not be affected in the least. The actual planned maximum number of days is 22. That speech Obama gave there was obviously for the benefit of the audience, and not the Cabinet.

Thought I'd check on this thread on my lunch break to see what wild excuses libs had come up with, apparently they too think this is indefensible. There is hope.

I would point out that even with furloughs there are other, not-being-cut positions that must be filled due to attrition. So more detail would be needed before I rant about waste. Like, the gun range trainer guy for the TSA (to use the technical term) retires, you need to replace that guy even though the TSA is cutting employees, right?

and you can't just throw in one of those security line drones, they barely know which end of the gun to hold, let alone how to train people on them

What happens when you call Washington asking if it's ok to lessen the impact of the sequester?

Email tells feds to make sequester as painful as promised - Washington Times

The Obama administration denied an appeal for flexibility in lessening the sequester’s effects, with an email this week appearing to show officials in Washington that because they already had promised the cuts would be devastating, they now have to follow through on that.

The executive only has so much authority when it comes to acts of congress, which is where the sequester came from.
Having approved the sequester, making it law, the executive is now charged with enforcement of said law.

...right, but the president can't just say "Nah we'll keep the FAA's budget the same." Where the dollars go was up to Congress.

You're greatly overestimating the discretion that the executive has regarding budgetary issues.

edit:
Remember that specific dollar amounts in cuts were applied to specific agency budgets. For example, if "state mediation grants" were cut by 8.2% from the Farm Service Agency under the Department of Agriculture. They can't just say "nah let's cut a few more food inspectors and keep the mediation funding." The FAA can't just unilaterally drop some of its NextGen R&D budget to shore up the Operations budget. (which includes air traffic control operations)

This is because the sequestration bill is freaking stupid, and was intentionally designed to be a stupid way to cut spending. Congress was trying to force itself to come to some kind of agreement under the threat of sequestration being stupid. And they ****ing did it anyway.

But it's much more fun for people to whine and blame the "other side" then to face the reality that the Dems/Libs and the Rep/Cons are equally to blame for where this country is today.
