US court declares Sea Shepherd pirates

Those anti-whaling vessels are pretty darn luck so far they have not run up against a ship that will attack them. I am all for protecting the whales, but I wouldn't think twice if the US Navy or someone else sent these liberal attack ships and their crews to the bottom of the ocean.

Especially since they are 'liberal' ships (how does a ship get to be liberal? Is there a process?) and their 'liberal' crews.

Ahh well, you guys would probably have opposed the underground railroad during the 19th century (also a pack of liberals, although I don't know if the road itself was liberal or not) and immediately returned the slaves to their masters. You are so predictable.

I'm surprised they weren't called "terrorists" instead. Really surprised, actually! I guess there is no real political interest in anti-whaling activists that would justify such a media label.

Nah - the right prefers to call them 'Liberals' (an even worse insult), and wants them all killed.

I am surprised they havent sent a warship. I think the US Navy would have been down their already if it was a US flagged ship getting harrassed.

Except, of course, a US Navy ship would hardly be down their protecting an illegal activity by a US flagged ship, would it?

Speaking as someone who has been a victim of eco terrorism I am torn on this subject. Whales (unlike trees) have been proven to be extremely intelligent and have intricate family and social structures much like dolphins, elephants and chimps. These are not prey animals like deer and rabbits, they sit near the top of the food chain and at some point humans need to be able to recognize that killing them is wrong. If you honestly believe killing whales is murder it is your duty to try and stop it so I hate to say it but I do have some sympathy and respect for these whale activist, at least they put their money where their mouth is.

Doesn't matter if you agree with them or not, or if you want to take the "its a just cause" road. You can't go around damaging private property and putting lives at risk without consequences.

The Jappenese seem to think its legal. I dont know why its been allowed to go for so many seasons.

Seems to me the problem will correct itself. In time they will reduce the whale population to the point that it is not economically sound to engage in whaling. The market will correct it. The rogue ship will only make people angry.

So you would have turned the slaves back over to their masters, too?

Oops, I forgot. Private Propery rights trumps everything. My bad.

People with principles usually are.........

It makes the whalers angry. So far it hasn't made me angry.

You can keep your hyperbole.

I have seen videos of Japanese herding dolphins into netted coves then clubbing them and loading them into trucks like cord wood as they scream in fear and agony. Makes me so mad I want to nuke them again.

So that's a 'yes, I would have exposed the Underground Railroad and turned the slaves back over to their masters'? Purely as a matter of principle, of course.

Ramming whaling ships = not arresting slaves.

We have a winner.

Nothing hyperbolic about it at all. You would have turned the escaped slaves back over to their masters, who after all owned the escaped 'property'. I suppose it's a waste of time asking you how you would have treated the Civil Rights demonstrators in the South - you know, the ones that violated the sacred 'Property rights' of those owners of whites only businesses.

Yeah, but I'm told this all involves the property rights of the whalers. Let's see - whale ships = Property; Slaves = Property.

And there's the matter of those abolitionists breaking the Law! Just like those 'liberal' protesters and their 'liberal' ships!

You guys continue to amuse.

You have to break some eggs to make an omelet. Yep, I get it. You are very clear that your moral interpretations of right and wrong trump all laws.

I would have traded them smokes and snicker bars for a little light housekeeping.......it is amazing you know so much about what so many other people would do/are thinking......you should start a magic show or something

Well, I'm willing to state categorically that the Fugitive Slave Act was wrong and the Underground Railroad was right. I'm also willing to state categorically that Segregation was wrong and Civil Rights Protests and Actions to end it were Right. Guilty as charged.

Yes, you stay on this board long enough and you know exactly what some people would do or are thinking. Even Independents :lamo like you.

The "research" is whaling. It is clear cut, no questions. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. Attacking people to protect whales is the wrong way.

This kind of thing has been ongoing for my whole life, and I can't say that it's actually done any good in all this time.

Again, it doesn't matter a hill of beans( haven't used that one in a long time ) in respect to the present discussion.

I guess you would have also saved the Christians from Nero, while I would have sent them to the dogs, right? Why not say I would stone women too, while you are out there in la-la land.

If they are gona eat em I really dont care. We are predators whether we like it or not. We eat pretty much anything that moves. Or not. Its called life. I am pretty sure you eat pork and beef and other meat. They aint excactly happy about being eatin either. Side note pigs are very inteligent animals and know when their number is about to be up. Some dont go quitely. They leave the world just like they came into it. Screaming. Life isnt nice or pretty. Why people get hot bothered over it is beyond me.

I watched a few of the episodes in the past - and they initially had a black ship with a huge pirate skull and cross bones plus flew a pirate flag. Just for that reason alone, I would think any ship - military or civilian - could blow them out of the water and otherwise open fire on them. Why wouldn't they be declared pirates given they were flying a pirate flag?

Because they're not actually pirates and they fly under a sovereign country's flag, not the pirate flag. That's just dumb decoration for a bunch of vegan hipsters with too large a trust fund.
