Senate Confirms Hagel as Secretary of Defense

wow 4 members of the party of NO actually broke ranks? Now THAT is breaking news. Seriously.....the fact that Republicans hate Obama so much that they won't even vote for one of their own is just astounding and screams volumes.

What the big brouhaha is about, the neoconservatives want to see a conservative or neoconservative as Secretary of Defense. The conservatives in the Republican Party know that Obama is going to sodomize the military big time and that Obama will accuse Hagel for allowing him to do what he does to the military.

The Democrat Party know that Hagel will be just another brown noser like Panetta and Gates. And with sequestration just around the corner, there will be no appropriations for KY jelly for Hagel or the military.

There are individuals more than interested in salvaging themselves from that American debacle known as the Right................

Good to see you're in fine form tonight Bonz - hope you're well

Media sharks will be alert for every misstatement or hint of weakness toward Iran or separation from Israel. After an embarrassing year he will tell the WH that he wants to leave. No one will try to change his mind.

Likewise. Although never a fan of Mr. Hagel, I give him high marks for selfreinvention..................

Utter nonsense

McCain said as much on the Sunday Morning Squabble Shows. On Feb 14th McCain says as much on fox Noise, " To be honest with you Niel, it goes back to there is a lot of ill will towards Senator Hagel because when he was a Republican, he attacked President Bush mercilessly.... and that was very anti his own party and people. People don't forget that."

He looked drugged to me in his confirmation hearing - it was like watching Foster Brooks, rest his soul.

Hagel is a nincompoop and so are the senators that voted for him and the head nincompoop that nominated him.

nincompoop

A braindead self important little turd given an impressive
sounding job title to keep him blissfully ignorant of
the world shattering nefarious machinations of his
keepers.-derived from army slangnon-com short for non commissioned officer

So let's see - you quote a Republican, much disliked by conventional Republicans because he is not really conservative, as the voice of the Republican party that considers him unlike themselves.

It actually is a quite a bit more partisan than recent candidates for Secretary of Defense. Only John Tower has gotten less than 92 yea votes since 1977. Looking at the names though, it seems Presidents generally try to nominate candidates with bipartisan appeal for the position. That wasn't really the case here, but I suspect that was what Obama was going for by nominating a former Republican senator, even though he had rather left-leaning views on foreign policy.
Hagel made real enemies of the neocons, that is what drove all this fluff. They were all ready to take over where the left of with Bush until Romney lost.

Good evening, CJ. The lefties have a hard time with conservative typology.:2wave:

Hi 2M - hope all is well - still don't understand the Hagel choice, other than as a political tool to blunt the effects of a weakened defense department and posture in the world.

Maybe. I just thought he looked really sad that he was being put through the ringer by former friends, but I don't think that dampened his desire to "be somebody"..............

"looked really sad" or was really sad looking?

Not sure about that, but he is being used by the Democrats. He's a patsy for the ****up that Obama is going to do to the Pentagon.

I promise not to report your double felony of hiring an illegal and pimping him/her out - I hope, at a minimum, you'll try to earn a profit, not like most progressive business ventures.

Not everything in the world is about your precious Obama.

John Kerry was appointed by Obama as well, and he is certainly way to the left of Hagel, on every issue - and was swiftly confirmed, 94-3.

Hagel made plenty of enemies in his own party, by going against the grain on numerous occasions, often in a manner many considered seriously inappropriate. Endorsing Democrats for Senate in 2010 and 2012 did nothing to re-endear him to former colleagues either.

"seriously inappropriate"..................Hey, the guy obviously has a bigger pair than 99% of the conservatives in this country..................
