Are you kidding me? The cost to the state for making plastic cards with photos on them (CHL ID card = DL ID card, apples = apple) is the same for each "privilege". For the CHL the state does not even bear the added cost of the written or practical testing.

No. I was showing how it is ridicules to compare the two. In this case I must admit after re-reading it I could have been clearer and less of a smart ass. No correlation between the 2.

Has nothing at all to do with the state making money off what they see (most likely) as a luxury tax. I think that is stupid but as I said the SCOTUS said they can do it. So I have no problem with paying a small fee. Or what I consider a small fee.

There absolutely is a correlation they are both simply state issued photo ID cards - cheap pieces of plastic.

I could better accept it if the "small fee" was the same for both, after all, it is just a cheap piece of plastic with a photo on it. I still see no valid reason that the state may rent your Constitutional rights back to you or lock you up if you refuse to pay that rights rental fee. While driving is a mere state issued privilege the 2A, in its entirety (keep and bear), is a Constitutional right that "shall not be infringed".

If you want a sports car, you pay the price plus all lic docs and fee's, period. Same for a gun.
Who gets to decide what item gets the (extra tax)? Why limit it to guns?
Lets go ahead and add an extra tax on vid games and consules, going to the violent movies, buying popcorn at the movies or a large soft drink. How about hammers, knives, slingshots, bows, etc.
Using your stance, if you can afford it pay the extra fee, it nothing, right?.

Adding extra laws and fees will not curtail the violence. We have laws making it a crime to rob banks. Bank still get robbed. Its a crime to murder, but murders still happen.
Maybe we need to get tougher on criminals and leave law abiding people alone.

the NYC gun permit laws are idiotic and should be loosened up. Scumbags would still not be able to carry-let alone own a weapon-anyway.

Its a testament to how bad NYC is when there are attorneys in that city who specialize in getting people permits

NYC also does something almost no other city does throughout the USA-refuses to recognize a NYS permit

SCOTUS said that African slaves weren't citizens and therefore had no rights, too. Just because SCOTUS says it doesn't make it right.

One means you are licensed to own and drive on the street. The other means you can conceal a weapon for whatever reason. Both are arbitrarily priced, so what? One is nothing like the other and have absolutely nothing in common except the state regulates both.

PS I never said anything about the courts always being right. Have no idea where that came from.
