here's another one to think about : pretty much every piece of electronic tech that we have is made there. do we just trust them not to put a backdoor in? i'm almost relieved that they currently have to hack to get in.
A greater concern would be, if we go to war with China we will be thrown back to 1960 technology wise. It would not be easy to start up electronics manufacturing overnight. If money is no object we would still have a lack of equipment to replace the electronics we get from Asia. We have lost alot of the labor and engineering that knows how to do this work. Infrastructure wise we depend on sources of equipment from dubious "friends" in the world. If you want a threat to US national defence, this is the one I am worried about.

we'd be damned dumb to go to war against China, hacking or not. a large part of the world would be thrown back well past 1960.

we do, however, need to get our **** together and consider getting our electronics manufacturing infrastructure up to speed, and we need to safeguard our private infrastructure against stuxnet-type attacks. i truly wish that we had never developed that.

Petty posturing on the part of the U.S. government. In the current economic climate, China is untouchable and they all know it.

At some point we are going to have to accept the consequences of our government information systems being globalized. Intranets would be far more secure, but our foreign and mobile operations demand constant access from anywhere in the world. If you want that kind of power you're going to have to deal with the vulnerabilities that accompany it.

Personally, if our sensitive files are to be digitized, I think we should be putting our most classified data into intranets, assuming we haven't already. Certain content should only be accessible from certain locations within the continental U.S.

Totally unacceptable. It would cut off our source of iPhones, iPads, iPods... Too terrible to contemplate.
