After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slavery

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

How many black slaves lived in Mississippi in 1994?
many black peop;le were discriminated against in Mississippi in 1984?
You should be asking, "How

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

Why aren't you asking that question? You don't seem to mind pissing up a rope when you thought that every legislator in Mississippi was white.

Snort!

Well done.

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

Yeah. Keep telling yourself that. That was the battle cry in the south during the
50's and 60's, when the 'over-bearing, over-reaching' federal government told them it was time to stop lynching blacks and to allow them to vote and to attend state universities.

By the way, that's the 1950's and 1960's, not the 1850's and 60's.

So those democrats were against big government ?

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

No, those Democrats were Conservatives. Luckily, they've either all died or become Republicans.

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

Kinda like when white voters were intimidated in Philidelphia by racist blacks and the DOJ ignored it. Right?

You are actually comparing a couple of Black Panther idiots showing up at a polling place with hundreds of years of discrimination and intimidation? God, no wonder you can't get any black votes.

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

The only black racists I've seen are republican, Toms.

Toms ? Thats racist in itself but actually the 60's Democrats just traded their goofy white hoods in for insitituting social programs that assisted in destroying black families and caused generational dependence.

So the democrat party hasn't really changed a bit.

Racism or the accusations of racism to force destructive legislation on black communities is pretty much akin to slavery.

You guys just institutionalized it to buy votes.....classy

No, they were democrats all right who changed their process from overt racism to a insidious form of control using dependence.

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

Why weren't the black legislators bringing this to the forefront? My point being, maybe they had bigger fish to fry than waste time worrying about an issue that's more symbolic than anything else and has zero to do with the real world problems faced by the poorest state in the union.

Another point, is why are we screaming "racism" but only applying it to the white legislators and giving the black legislators a free pass? Is this just another chance to stereotype southern whites, or flat out hypocrisy?

Must be because those black legislators, who constitute a very small percentage of the Mississippi Legislature, thought slavery was a good thing.

I'm continually amazed how you right wing folks wind up blaming the most egregious forms of racism and discrimination on the victims. It's a real art form. Nobody buys it other than your fellow travelers, but it is a neat trick.

Ahh, the continuing battle cry of the Far Right - 'Those blacks are so stupid they let themselves be manipulated by those rascally Democrats!':lamo

I'm not blaming anything on anyone. I'm just asking why you're only questioning the white legislators and not the black legislators. Just askin'.

If we cried it,and we didn't who did it ?

Your party. Its pushing dependence now. Why do you think Obama ran food stamp adds on mexican tv stations ?

Its the only way you'll get votes

1. Calamity - making claims like that really tells me that you have no faith in the black community, and feel without help from the federal government - the black community would never survive. I guess you believe the black community isn't nearly as smart as you are.

2. It's funny you referenced Alabama on top of Mississippi. I couldn't find current numbers, but as of 2009 Mississippi and Alabama were ranked #2 and #3 in the number of black legislators, right behind #1 which was Georgia. You think they would deny their own constituents the right to vote?
1. One word: Lynching.

2. If they are a minority, then just like the Democrats in Wisconsin, they have no power to stop anything from being passed by the RW Majority. All three states have a solid RW Majority. Georgia is the most far right state in the nation.

Don't believe everything you hear on Fox. OK?

Re: After 148 years, Mississippi finally ratifies 13th Amendment, which banned slaver

Do they constitute a majority? and why should only black legislators care about this?

It seems the base line has been moved. Now fair representation isn't enough, it has to be majority representation.

With this criteria every state in the union would be racist, sexist, homophobic or whatever.

Actually it was people throughout the United States and around the English speaking world.

"Toms"????

Guess we know where you're coming from, which fits into the history of the Democratic Party quite neatly.

Certainly.

Every Republican from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King worked to free the Black people and many thousands of others, Black and White, fought for their rights. Now the left is trying to discard their past, and present, by claiming they somehow switched sides. All nonsense of course and with no evidence whatsoever.

Quite the contrary. It is the Democrats who pass laws saying that Blacks are not equal to Whites and Asians, that they have less intelligence and ability. That is not in dispute..

"you" white folks? Don't you mean, "us", white folks?
