The dinosaurs didn't survive their nuclear winter thanks to that one giant rock or comet. It's happened at least once, it can happen again.

The meteor did make it to become a meteorite. Most of it probably burned up thanks to the friction created by Earth's atmosphere and the meteor traveling 33,000 MPH.

Since the moon has little gravity it has no atmosphere and no friction to slow these things down. Can you imagine what the impact would have looked like there? Get a pair of binoculars and check out all the craters on the moon.

Fantastic. I'm a Conservative but I'm all for a arbitrary and capricious tax on women who give their kids stupid names. It should be levied at the Hospital.

If I run across one more Dakota, Cheyenne, Hunter, Damien, Chesney, Brook'lyne, Kaitlin I'm gonna lose it.

All it takes is a couple with marginal intelligence who call a tin building on wheels HOME and the stupidity abounds.....

sorry, back to my point. Uhm, the Ruskies are in no way our ally and would in an instant do away with us if they could. Hell all they have to do is dump their US treasuries or get China to dump its US bonds and thats all it would take.

By latest accounts, some 1,200 people injured - mostly cut but broken glass - but no one was killed. Nearly a miracle.

I'm having a good laugh over this.

    1) Years ago, when I brought up the fact that Bush had cut NASA funding, you pretty much called me antiamerican for saying something bad about Bush.

    2) Had Obama restored those funds to NASA, you would be calling him a tax and spend Liberal.

This is just a case of "It's only bad when the other party does it, but good when our guys do it".

    3) Obama cut funds from a government program, and you are mad? I am mad too, my left wing friend.

You are way more likely to have your home powered by Russian nuclear weapons then you are to be attacked by them.

Great irony of the Cold War is that former Russian warheads are turned into MOX fuel to light up the homes they were built to annihilate.

Shame doesn't work on the shameless my friend. Besides, what exactly are we going to do against it?

The rock was flying at 48,000 KPH or roughly 29,825 MPH which is almost double what ICBMs top out at and we can't even hit those with any regular success and they are much bigger.

They call the missile shield hitting a bullet with a bullet. This is like hitting a supersonic grain of sand with a bullet.

It appears that the meteor was much larger than initially reported. An article in the Christian Science Monitor says that it weighed about 7,000 metric tons (NOT 10 tons.), and that it's explosion at 12-15 miles altitude had the force of a 300-500 kiloton nuclear warhead (Hiroshima bomb was 20-22 kilotons.). What if it had exploded over Moscow at 1 kilometer altitude?

    Check it out: http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/201...-warhead-video
