Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job[W: 104, 181]

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

Am I sure? Yes. Quite.

Are you brighter than me? No idea. How is it you know such a thing?

Would I like my ass handed to me...? Not particularly. But if that's how you Christian-and-moral-values Republicans debate, who am I to stop you? Go for it.

What Pelosi meant about the food stamps is exactly what she said, that for every dollar spent, 1.79 is created in economic activity. here's why (Pssst... you could have easily looked up the reasoning yourself, but I suspect you didn't really want to know. Not exactly a hallmark trait of bright people).
Food stamps: The struggle to eat | The Economist

Your comment about the Guam thing is also not exactly evidence of brightness in that you ascribe being a Democrat to saying a silly thing. Bright people, and even not-so-bright people, are well aware that saying stupid things is a human thing, NOT a political party thing.

The president's policies have not led us down the path you mention. In fact, the increase in government assistance is a result of the Bush economic collapse/near Depression. Any time there is a massive economic collapse, the need for assistance goes up. In addition, common sense tells bright people that trickle-down economics (AKA Reaganomics/Gush-uponomics) will result in more hardship for the masses since you're redirecting most of the wealth to a tiny percentage of the population. Now presumably you support these economics. Please don't complain about the inevitable consequences.

In addition, bright people are aware that Obama's spending is actually lower than Bush's. DEmocratic presidents actually spend LESS. Obama has not cut spending levels, but he has leveled them off, DESPITE a severe economic crisis. Biggest expenditures have been the war in Iraq and the tax cuts for very wealthy people, both of which you presumably supported and had not problem with such spending. But spending on improving infrastructure bothers you. go figure. That's a little like splurging on a Rolls Royce while condemning spending on a college education.

Yes, I'm a Democrat. You got one thing right! Congratulations! I'm impressed.

no way.. your a lib dem? your post gave you away...it sounded like it was a 5th grader

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

Look, I am about the last person to say anything good about Pelosi (outside of gay rights).

But the woman is "worth" at least $35 M. (The 50 Richest Members of Congress — 112th : Roll Call) - see #12.
The difference in question? - that much money she donates, I am pretty sure, to some charitable fund, ten times over, if only for PR reasons.

She probably simply meant to say that she was mindful of the members of Congress - on both sides of the isle - who are not rich at all, and basically have to choose between the political career and supporting their families, if their salaries are cut.
At least in theory, they are trying to do something kinda important there.

I would never put it in the way she did, but well - she is not exactly the sharpest cheddar in the dairy section...

See, I told you that I was brighter than you and your'e no Democrat.

My Grandfather was a Democrat, and he disassociated from the party when they got hijacked by the likes of HOJ.

Your'e just a partisan highly uninformed individual who's been co-opted into the progressives disaster.

he thought, being a WWII vet that the modern day Democrat party was a disgusting joke.

How you guys only care about soldiers lives when a Republicans in office , or when Stephanopolis quit counting dead soldiers when Obama was elected.

How you only care about shooting victims when they're white children and you can use their death to gain points on a old liberal argument.

How many kids have been gunned down in Chicago this year ? Last year ?

How all of the anti-war protest dried up, or that any grown person could be so stupid as to blame Bush for our current disaster when Clinton gave HUD regulatory power to force the GSEs into buying massive toxic debt and when Clinton in 1995 under EXECUTIVE ORDER forced banks to comply with CRA regulations by loaning to people with poor credit.

No, the massive "depression" is made and mandated by Clintons actions which included allowing for those toxic loans to be securitized in the first place.

You libs whine about regulations and banking that caused it. Well your'e partly correct. Regulations under HUD and CRA not only caused it, they mandated it.

Oh and your'e including TARP in Bush's spending ? Obama voted for that and hey, he "leveled off " spending...

THATS hillarious. 900 billion last quarter alone. Thats like saying I leveled off shoiting bullets into the home intruder at ...90000 bullets.

He was probably dead after the first 3 or 4.

It looks like your'e trying to say a Keynesian approach is needed to repair the collapse of the Democrat mandated bubble? You actually believe that borrowing and taking money out of the private sector to put back into the private sector is going to turn the economy around ?

And at the same time threatening more regulations, higher taxes on producers and then unleashing ObamaCare on companies with more than 50 employees ?

Not to ention the sur taxes in ObamaCare. You think thats how you grow a private sector economy ?

This isn't Keynesian, its desperation. Keynes never argued for massive structural debt with no economic growth. You guys have corrupted Keynes theories.

Youv'e actually bought into the manufactured "eat the rich " lie ? How unfortunate.

You see Obama's approach has people with real wealth holding onto their cash, instead of pushing it out into the market. They figure only an idiot would invest in Obama's economy and they're right.

I mean you actually publicly claimed Obama has spent less than Bush...LOL !!

Do you realize banks are holding onto massive reserves ? Yup. And since 2008 they're getting paid interest on those reserves by the FED. Thats money they by law HAVE to have on hand.

You're quite ill informed.

And now you're saying I'm no Democrat? Before you said I am a Democrat.

Why don't YOU make up YOUR mind as to what I am, and I'll fix my registration, since you clearly know what I am better than I know what I am.

lol...I was expecting more from him. I mean even HOJ will attempt to counter my facts with lies but no.

More of those conservative moral and Christian values, I guess, huh?

Btw, doesn't that kind of humor usually end @ fifth grade?

1) I'm a she;
2) I gather you didn't bother reading the article I provided showing how it is that food stamps actually benefit the economy;
3) most of your post was rambling, and it is clear you think a fact is something you BELIEVE to be the case.
4) I've yet to figure out how to separate quotes in order to answer each item individually.

But here is what I know: You are wrong about food stamps and Pelosi was right, and I provided info. to show you this to be the case; you are wrong about Obama and spending. You just are. Now, either you care about being informed, or you care about battering the opposition. Your choice.

"In addition, bright people are aware that Obama's spending is actually lower than Bush's."

"The administration’s own estimates project spending next year that is higher as a percentage of the economy than in any year since the end of World War II. The average projected by Obama’s budget officials is significantly higher than the average under Reagan or Bush (father or son)."

Please don't use "right" and Pelosi in the same sentence, it's an oxymoron. Also please don't attempt to use the Keynesian hallucinations of aggregate demand and food stamps. You may think it makes sense in an academic closet but in Realville, it's simply nonsense. Removing wealth from an economy and then reinserting it and having a magical multiplication effect is magic dust. The government can only obtain money three ways, extort it from citizens in the form of taxes, print it, or borrow it. None of those three options is conducive for free market capitalistic economies. Claiming otherwise and citing a "study" is evidence of more lab gobbleygook vomited forth by Keynesians.

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

Why don't you stop faking your independent lean, you have never done anything but defend the Democrat status quo. It plainly says who she is talking about, if you would read. But I don't care, she is doing the same thing you do. Makes me want to puke.

My reading of the transcript follows much of what he says.

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

and yet, I've yet to see a Republican correctly grasp anything any Democrat ever says, always twisting it into something cynical. Of course, that is willful, and usually just following orders from FOX and Limbaugh, et al.

You don't know what the **** you're talking about.

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

It would, you two are alike.

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

Whiny bitch should have her entire paycheck sent to the Treasury to cover her fair share.

They all should.

But that would also be unconstitutional. A sitting Congress cannot adjust its current pay. Until we get an amendment amending that or repealing the existing amendment, what the GOP passed is blatantly unconstitutional.

Ah but the growth in spending is.

Who Is The Smallest Government Spender Since Eisenhower? Would You Believe It's Barack Obama? - Forbes

Quite significantly too. Obama's extremely low growth in spending makes Clinton look reckless.

Oh? Is it because we can read carefully?

Yes, I do.

Btw, are those four stars representing foul language an example of those conservative Christian and moral values cons are always blathering on about being overly possessed of?

Is it moral for someone like Pelosi, whom sat on a committee that steered stimulus to one of her husbands business interests in SF, while decrying that sort of thing? She's a liar, and if colorful language harms your delicate sensibilities, then maybe instead of making the argument personal in a debate you should stick to the subject.

With that said, what would you say about CEO's that grant themselves huge bonuses, and extravagant pay packages while driving their company into the ground, and holding their workers pay down to do it? Oh yeah, I know, but what is the difference between Pelosi, and them?

Well, I'm going to respond, before I check out your first claim, by saying that, in all the years I've been commenting like this, I've yet to see a conservative correctly grasp what they've read and instead turn it into something they WANT to believe and something that is very bad for the Democrat. And I'm telling you, I've got a 100% accuracy rate going so far.

Now, you're kind of all over the road, which makes responding difficult. It's kind like verbal "Whack-a-mole". Pelosi is like CEOs who give themselves huge bonuses while driving their companies into the ground??? I don't see the analogy.

Now, just as I thought, you are not only misrepresenting something, but you are lying (probably because you simply heard something you wanted to believe was true and didn't bother checking it out for yourself) which is kind of ironic since here your comment implies that you believe lying is really bad.

FactCheck.org : Special Favors from Nancy Pelosi?

Now, as an example of the 100% rate of cons twisting meaning to suit their agenda and not getting it right, how do you get that I have delicate sensibilities when it comes to foul language? I didn't say anything like, "It offends ME when you speak like that." See? I was pointing out that it runs counter to the mantra from conservatives about how overflowing with moral and Christian values THEY are compared to libs.

Get it?

So, you're two for two here on getting it wrong. Try harder next time.

Re: Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job

Transcript of Pelosi Press Conference Today | Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi

Leader Pelosi. Well, as you know, that's why I don't like across‑the‑board cuts because – you used one example, but there are many other examples where an across‑the‑board cut may not make the best sense. Why should people who work on Capitol Hill pay that price and be treated as Members of Congress are? It's a hard question to ask me because most of my colleagues are the breadwinners in their families. A pay cut to me doesn't mean as much. [/B ] I mean, I don't think we should do it. I think we should respect the work we do. I think it's necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded, but [if there is] an across‑the‑board cut, there's an across‑the‑board cut, that's just the way it is.

Mr. Van Hollen has been a leader, as Mr. Hoyer has, and others, on the impact that this will have on federal employees, including people on Capitol Hill, and I wanted to yield to him to talk about that.

Those people who try to distort the facts deserve no respect.

Relying on FactCheck.org would be like me using the GOP website to cover for any despicable utterance said by a republican congress critter. But, that aside I see that not only your self inflated view of yourself, coupled with righteous indignation, leaves your own post less about the topic at hand, and more inane drivel from the personal attack progressive than anything else.

If you have something other than that get back to me will ya?
