Senate Republicans block Hagel nomination after Democrats force vote

Senate Republicans block Hagel nomination after Democrats force vote - The Washington Post

Well, they're filibustering their own guy...Funny thing is, the next nominee is not likely to be someone they like any better.

How is Hagel "their own guy"? You really should develop the ability to think and speak for yourself or you'll be lost when Obama's term is over.

Do you even follow politics? The Repubs have already stated that they'll be ready to proceed when they return from break. This was nothing more than a protest vote...
I don't often change my signature, but this was just too over the top to let anyone forget with what this country is up against...

Agreed. Hagel is as Republican as Charlie Crist. Actually, I would prefer that Hagel not be confirmed. I agree with Mike Huckabee that Hagel's performance at his confirmation hearing was the most embarassing public performance since Roseanne Barr tried to sing the national anthem.

I like Hagel, but the Senate rules do allow filibusters.
I just wish the rules required the dissident Senator(s) to actually hold the floor for hours or days at a time.
If Jimmy Stewart could do it in a movie, I'll bet our current crop of pols can do it, too.
On second thought, our elected officials are probably too busy fund-raising to make such an effort.

He's not "our own guy" . He's a shill for Obama so that when he guts defense he can blame it on a Republican and call it "bipartisan".

    Hagels a foolish old man.

The GOP is nihilistic. Reed should take the leadership aside, slap them around and tell them if they continue to act like babies, Democrats will vow to block every nomination of every nominee ever proposed by a future GOP president.

Though that may not be much of a threat since it's unlikely the moribund and pathological GOP will ever win a presidential election again.

Seems this is political grandstanding by both parties. The Democrats force an early vote before Presidents after the GOP said they would be willing to have the vote after the break. The Republicans filibuster the nomination which they said they would have a vote on. I think both parties are guilty in trying to score political points instead of trying to do what is good and right for our country. This shouldn't surprise anyone, both parties putting their party above country has become common place.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

No equivalency. The GOP Senators are trying to block an eminently qualified man. That's actually contrary to their power. They should be removed from office and new elections held to put in grown ups who follow the Constitution.

Perhaps in your view, but why not wait until after the break and then have the vote as the GOP said they would allow. Then you well qualified candidate would be confirmed, probably along a party line vote. Actually Article II Section 3 does give the senate that power, the power of advice and consent.
