What a tragic and heartbreaking end to a truly amazing story....

He claims that he thought his girlfriend was an intruder.

What a horrible story. I feel for the family of the poor woman.

The linked story didn't work so I went to ESPN's...then groaned a bit at the "reporting". Crap like this in the middle of an article about a current event and a sports figure just boggle my mind. Lets play the Sesame Street game...one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong.

"No matter how bad the situation was, Oscar always stayed calm and positive," Giannini told the Associated Press in Italy. "Whenever he was tired or nervous he was still extremely nice to people. I never saw him violent."

Yet Pistorius had troubles in his personal life. In February 2009, he crashed a speedboat he was piloting on South Africa's Vaal River. Witnesses said he had been drinking before the crash and officers found alcoholic beverages in the wreckage, although they acknowledged at the time they hadn't conducted a blood test on the athlete. Pistorius broke his nose, jaw and several ribs in the crash, damaged his eye socket and required some 180 stitches to his face.

In November, Pistorius also found himself in an altercation with a local coal-mining millionaire over a woman, South African media reported. Eventually, the two men involved the South African Police Service's elite Hawks investigative unit before settling the matter.

Pistorius owned firearms and posted a photograph of himself at a shooting range in November 2011 to Twitter, bragging about his score.

"Had a 96% headshot over 300m from 50shots! Bam!" he tweeted.

Troubles in personal life = Drunk crashing a boat, getting in a fight with a guy over a woman, bragging that you had good a day at the shooting range with guns you own.

he wont have a leg to stand on if this goes to court.

I bet he was a thoroughly responsible gun owner till he went crazy and shot her...

Haha that sounds like all my friends from college!!!

Tragic event.

I can't see him surviving that. If it was an "accident", he will crucify himself with guilt. If it wasn't, he'll appeal his innocence for the rest of his life from behind bars. Assuming he is found guilty. Remember the other famous sportsman...

He was definitely legless when she was shot.

And you think ABE is awful.

Anyway, he is one man who will wish gun laws were stricter.
