Pope resigns

But it is not a FACTUAL institution. Santa Claus is an established social institution too, it just isn't real.

I don't really care what the Catholics believe in or what the Jews believe in or what the Muslims believe in or what the Hindus believe in, I care about what is factually true in the real world. That's where these discussions ultimately fall apart because, at the end of the day, you're more concerned with feeling good than you are in being correct. I'm exactly the opposite.

There's nothing wrong with being happy. You should give it a try some time.

I'm very happy, thanks. I'm just not delusional. You should give it a try some time.

If that's "very happy" I'd hate to see "very angry." :lamo J/K.

Why does it bother you so if someone else believes in God?

If there is nothing at the end of the tunnel, why waste your time arguing against believers?

Then see it as an institution believing in something that isn't real. Your irritation at the entire concept of religion is completely unsophisticated.

I personally am a lapsed Catholic. I may not hold totally to the structure of worshiping in the building, but far be it for me to pass judgement on what anyone else believes, or doesn't....Each persons faith is their own, and those who blanketly attack it tend to remind me of those lost souls that are only pissed that they aren't a part of it.

It can influence the time given, here and now.

I get where you're coming from, but when I think about it, I don't see why that would matter if there isn't a afterlife. For example, the universe is expanding and it is theorized that everything in it will eventually fall part. If not just your own life, but the universe and everything in it is ending for all of eternity, does it really matter? You might help future generations, but ultimately I fail to see what purpose there could be without at the very least an eternity for the human race or universe, if not yourself.

Same reason it would bother me if people believed in unicorns, especially if they were voting the way they thought the unicorns wanted them to vote.

A better question is, why the hell doesn't it bother you?

But, if you were right, would it really matter in the grand scheme of things?

These people are Catholics only nominally. There is a debate in the Church about whether those who support abortion should be denied Communion. It seems like this is starting to spread.

Most Catholics view abortion as wrong, but feel they don't have a right in telling people no. I am not one of those people(I am not Catholic any longer) nor my Catholic family... but an argument can be made. Most people think you shouldn't be one-issue voters either. And I don't think it's right declaring who are legit Catholics and who arn't.

All of this aside... my statements still stand true... most Catholics are liberal lol.

I'll admit I'm not well versed in the differences, I will look into that and get back to you on it.

Hmmmm....Let me guess, you (like most liberals) believe that in order to win elections that the GOP must become more like liberals. Well, the GOP did that for the past decade plus, how'd that work out?

No, the GOP will be just fine, what they need to do is get back to basics, and STOP trying to get liberals to like them. They need to see that it is liberal sabotage that has brought them to this point.

Yeah, if the GOP would move so far to the right that it's in danger of falling off the edge of the evangelical's Flat Earth it will do just fine.

Try that and get back to me in thirty years and tell me how in worked out.

Have a nice day.

Than how can you argue against than judging those who don't meet their expectations?

I can argue against anything that I want to argue against.

It's known as free speech, ever heard of the 1st Amendment?

Hey look who's back. Have you found any arguments against the Quinque Viae yet?

None of the above. God cannot be "defined" by simple human minds.

Yes religion is the root of ALL evil. Not money or power. It's a HUGE problem.

Probably because, as Thomas Jefferson said quite well, "If it neither breaks my leg, nor picks my pocket, then what concern is it of me?"

If believing in God gives an old lady comfort in her old age, or helps a struggling family make it through the tough times, or keeps an otherwise good kid from committing a crime, then what the hell is so bad? See, your angry because you perceive that Christians want to convert you, when in reality, conversion can only truly happen if it is in your heart to begin with. And, believe it or not, Christians are not all milling around figuring new ways to upset you.

You ought to leave them alone, and they'll leave you alone....Doubt you can though.
