Most people that are religious, more specifically most Roman Catholics, don't follow the teachings 100%.

In fact, I would be willing to be that nowadays, people don't like to be pigeonholed, and purposefully move away from stereotypes.

The majority of Catholics in America voted for President Obama, we're fairly liberal in the US.

Good question. In the US our former Presidents still maintain the title of "President" for life and a lot of the amenities such as Secret Service protection, access to Camp David (but so do a lot of people who were never President. Getting to stay at Camp David for a weekend is even on my bucket-list, am I just a peon ). I love these history making events as we get to watch it all happen in our lifetimes.

Yes but most liberals understand that pre-maritial sex will happen, condoms and other birth control are needed, divorce happens, etc which are all things the church is against. Most liberals I know of are not Roman Catholics, they are Christians, non-demoninational, agnostic, or atheists.

Can't speak for anyone but myself, but I wouldn't have a problem with a black Pope. The Church's longstanding presence in non-Anglo-Saxon areas would eventually lead to more and more minority clergy at various levels.
I didn't even think of the race but it's good have a variety of people who can relate to everyone so a black pope would be fine but I want an American Pope too!

I think you would be surprised by the make-up of today's Roman Catholics. If you want to find more conservative Catholics, check out the Byzantine Catholics. They are more old school.

LOL, as an American sort of Catholic with Italian heritage I don't know if I should be offended by this guy but that was pretty funny.

    Re: Pope resigns

My only question is how long will it take to elect the next pope? Will it take a couple days, a couple weeks, or at worst a couple of months?
