Teen births continue to decline in U.S - Yahoo! News

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The number of U.S. babies born to teen mothers dropped to record lows in 2011, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"I think the main thing behind this is increased contraceptive use, and better contraceptive use," Upadhya, who wasn't involved in the new research, told Reuters Health.

However, she added, there are still some parts of the country where both condoms and long-acting forms of contraception, such as intrauterine devices (IUDs), are harder for teens to access.

Simple, affordable, and accessible birth control should not be a problem in the USofA.

I beleive if is increased contriceptive use, 15-19 year olds dont think much about the economy. I wonder if sexual activity has increased accordingly like some would like to believe.

I do have a problem with being against both abortion and birth control. One thing for sure we will never stop is teen age sex drive. Unless, of course, we start stoning women for it.
in my opinion, birth control should be the default setting from puberty until children are desired. this would virtually eliminate any need for abortion. of course, the freak out over such a policy would be absolutely epic.

even then it wouldn't be stopped, because it's an evolutionary holdover from when the average human lifespan was 40. it wasn't really that long ago, either. our customs may have changed, but our biology really hasn't.

Teflon coated slope there. OK for teens to have sex...what about a non-teen having sex with a teen? If it's OK for 14 year olds to have sex, what about a 40 year old having sex with a 14 year old? If not, why not? And please spare me the manipulation argument, if you don't think teens manipulate each other into sex you are a fool.

Coupled with this, I say that is pretty good news:

The abortion rate among teens ages 15 to 17 has declined by 45 percent since 1990, from 26.5 abortions per 1,000 teen females in 1990 to 14.5 abortions per 1,000 teen females in 2000. (See Figure 1) Overall, teen abortion rates have been declining since the late 1980s.

I am not for providing free contraceptives, but I am all for having them available. Parents need to be the key.

How hard can it possibly be to get your hands on condoms? Gas stations sell them, for Christ's sake.

Edit: I DO NOT support the IUD for a teenage girl. Of all available birth control methods it is the one most likely to cause severe damage (and possibly infertility) should anything go wrong. Let 'em use the ring, the patch, the pill, the shot...but not a device that can perforate the uterus and cause internal bleeding.

Who said it was OK? Nonteen vs teen? I blieve sex should only be between married partners. But I aint that crazy and I was a teenager once.
