Dr. Benjamin Carson's speech at prayer breakfast

Birtherism aside, from 2008:

But beyond that, the message was there both in 2008, and this past election, the question is are we smart enough to see it when it is presented?

More Dr. Carson:

Being in Hannity certainly hurts his credibility. But, I see more of the unoriginal scare lines concerning communism/ socialism /fascist nonsense. Funny stuff. Not really.

And Obama going on The View helps his credibility?lol If you just watched the Hanity interview and came away with "scare lines" I must ask where you got it from, because 100% of what Carson said makes perfect sense to me.

Poor, poor conservatives. If only they were strong enough to handle "THE LEFT."

:coffeepap

Strong enough? Strength in numbers means nothing in this country (except for the people who want to suppress the minority... or, the racists (synonymous with Liberal))... You would probably have the Electoral College process dismantled and go straight to majority-rules vote huh? Hey, get it while the going's good...

Being in Hannity certainly hurts his credibility.

With who? Look, I thought you libs were all about 'truth to power'? or is that only when agitating, and heckling a repub President? You may not like Hannity's political leanings, but he is a good questioner. See, this is what I am talking about, you don't like that he appears on Hannity, or FNC for that matter, but he was, and is promoting a conservative, no nonsense message. Where would you prefer he go on? MSNBC? Where the mockery, and derision could rule the day, and the message be lost?

But, I see more of the unoriginal scare lines concerning communism/ socialism /fascist nonsense.

Well, too bad that the truth makes you so uncomfortable. It is what it is, you want liberals to cease to get the Communist/Socialist/Fascist labels thrown at you? Stop acting like them then.

Funny stuff. Not really.

I agree, nothing funny about destroying the nation.

First of all let me just say that I have great respect for Dr. Carson. I remember when he came to my inner city high school and spoke. He is a very brilliant man who is deep rooted in his faith. Now with that being said, there are a few things I have to disagree with him on.

He use his mom as a example of someone who work two jobs to stay off of welfare. Hey that is wonderful but what message would he give that man or woman who can't find one job? Every one situation is different and he can't demonize someone without knowing their situation.

True Story:

About a month ago, our dept secretary came by my desk and told me that there was a co-worker (he didn't say who) who is coming to work hungry because she can only afford to buy food for her kids. She can't take government assistance because she makes too much. He said that her bills and daycare is killing her so he ask me to donate money to her. I felt so bad for her and I told him to count me in because God has bless me and I know this is what Jesus want us to do.

I don't believe I said that, in any way. Sorry, but that strawman has no weight.

Whine, whine, whine. No mater the system, if it is the system, accept it and quit whining. I believe, btw, you lost the popular vote as well.

With any thinking person, regardless of party or ideaology. It would be the same with someone appearing on Oberman, for example.

Don't mistake sad laughter for being uncomfortable. And the thing is, no one is acting like them. That's why I have the sad laughter.

I agree, nothing funny about destroying the nation.

You were fairly comfortable with a conservative doing it. Odd that.

When Obama went on The View to giggle with the girls instead of going to the Boy Scout 100th anniversary jubilee it spoke volumes of the mans character. It was all about the GLTB agenda and being the run of the mill politician he just couldn't resist. Go Red Wings!

I agree with you, we should help those in need. However, there are many, many people who are leeches on society and will continue to take and take. We have to find a way to force them to earn their keep. Anyone can fall on hard times and it is nice to help such people.

Which is the trouble with the narrative alone. They can give substance to a claim, but we must remember there are other narratives, those where people succeeded and moved on after the help (that would be myself and all my siblings). to paraprhase another saying, there are millions if not billions of stories out there.

I don't know how I screwed up the formatting when I quoted but the first part of that reply is not mine. I am still getting used to this website. I grew up just north of Detroit but Dr. Carson is a little older than I. During the turbulent '60's Dr. Carson would have been a teenager. Detroit, Michigan in the mid 1960's was a very volitile place, especially for a black teenager. I don't think Dr. Carson was minimizing anyone who came from similar situations but using his story of an illustration of what a person can do with hard work and discipline. Your personal case is how it is supposed to work IMO. I will expand. When I lost a job many years ago and my daughter was still in grade school we enrolled her on the CHIP program. When my financial situation improved we took her off the program. The state worker who took the call when we called to cancel her coverage, because we didn't need it anymore, they tried to talk us out of it. We are not to be perpetual wards of the state, if we need the help then I am grateful it is available but it should not become a way of life.

My mother was on it a while. But she used it to learn a trade and none of us ever went back.

BTW, I actually like Dr. Carson and find no fault with him. The fault I find most in those who are reading him as if there are no other narratives.

God Bless Dr Ben Carson... he is a great and wonderful man...

For sure the world needs a lot more people like him.

I read his bio. Him and his wife have done a lot of great things.

YYou'd better hope that the foundations of the US stay in tact, otherwise who is going to bail your butt out?

The GOP is not the foundation of the USA.

A message to those who know who they are: "Please get your political terms straight! 'Communism' means 'Everyone wearing glasses gets their heads staved in with rifle butts,' while 'Socialism' means 'Drinks and smokes on the middle class!'" ~ Steve Mayer

I hope that is helpful.

Abso-Freakin'-lutely!!!!!! Right on Doc....You know the last time I saw that look on Obama's face was during the debate when Romney handed him is arse! :lamo
The other day I herd Rush commenting the Obama was looking down in disgrace at the mention of health savings accounts......Obama was looking down because he was texting. I know that look, when you phone vibrate and you want to be discreet. You can see the right arm retrieve it from his pocket. When Obama was don, he put his phone up on the table.

Yeah, I should have known....You know liberals, manners, and class are usually not simpatico...

The most amusing aspect of Dr Ben Carson's emergence onto "the scene" was the low information politician who said, and I'm paraphrasing, "it was wrong to inject God into his comments". <forehead slap> Yeah, imagine injecting GOD into comments at a.........(wait for it).......(wait for it).............. PRAYER meeting.

No one claims that politicians are the shiniest pennies in the drawer....But how does that deflection detract from the message given at the event?

I haven't checked to confirm Jerry's supposition; however, as no one is privy to any inside information on any such call, once again some huge leaps are taking place.

Well, not to worry, regardless of your own self perception of importance to this issue, thank goodness we are not reliant on your checking, or not.

Apparently, you don't need any "facts" at all. ;)

No, you have that wrong....When you actually present facts, I mean actual facts, I'll consider them. So far you play far to fast and loose with what you call facts, as to question your whole integrity on any issue. Sorry.
