EXCLUSIVE: Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americans

Re: EXCLUSIVE: Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americ

See my post above. My point is the hypcrisy on both sides is disgusting.
Sorry, I didn't catch that.

You are right and I've been saying this for years. When we have an environment that allows those in power to get away with abuses of that power by simply pointing to past abuses("they did it, too!") then we will never be able to stop it. It's a never ending cycle.

Re: EXCLUSIVE: Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americ

1. "Where an informed, high-level official of the US government has determined that the targeted individual poses an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States."

.....in much the same way that informed, high level officials of the US government determined that Saddam Hussain had weapons of mass destruction.

Re: EXCLUSIVE: Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americ

Well it's not necessarily a "license to kill", that is the problem. Governors have the power of life and death in their hands, and the President is authorized to full executive powers within the confines of the Constitution. It's the unchecked power without oversight or balance that is the problem. Our system was designed to set faction upon faction to check each other. Here (like in so many other areas), the President apparently believes that system to be too confining for all the "fundamental change" he wants to make to America.

First, having to get a warrant for wiretaps was too confining.
Now, having oversight for assassination by drone is too confining.
Will drone attacks on our own soil be next? When will we finally put a stop to this unchecked power?

Re: EXCLUSIVE: Justice Department memo reveals legal case for drone strikes on Americ

I think we might but AM had this up since 5am.....so I didn't get back until later in the evening. Which is why I am hitting it this piece up. Are the others worded in the same with the same piece? If so, maybe we can get them merged.

I agree with you.....everybody should be concerned.

Isn't this the same subject?

Samir Khan (left) and Anwar al-Awlaki, both U.S. citizens, were killed in in Yemen by an American drone strike.

Of the scores of people dubbed terrorists and taken out by American military drone strikes, three men -- all killed in the fall of 2011 -- were U.S. citizens.
And their lives illustrate the complexity of the issue, recently brought to light amid a newly discovered government memo that provides the legal reasoning behind drone strikes on Americans.

Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan were killed by a missile strike in Yemen on Sept. 30, 2011, while al-Awlaki’s son, Abdulrahman, was killed in the country just weeks later.

Since the attacks, family members have called the deaths unjust and sued the U.S. government, calling the killings unconstitutional.

But the most controversial drone strike took place on Oct. 14, 2011, when 16-year-old Abdulrahman was killed by U.S. forces.

Family of the Denver-born teenager say he had no ties to terrorist organizations and was unjustly targeted because of his father.
Nassar al-Awlaki, grandfather of Abdulrahman and father to Anwar, said he tried to protect his grandson as Anwar al-Awlaki’s profile grew.
In December, Nassar al-Awlaki told CNN, “In Anwar it was expected because he was under targeted killing, but how in the world they will go and kill Abdulrahman. Small boy, U.S. citizen from Denver, Colorado.”

The Obama administration has remained mostly mum regarding Abdulrahman's death, and at times has struggled to explain it.....snip~

The conservative response in the Bush era was "If you don't have anything to hide, you have nothing to worry about".

That was never my response.

Leaks from Obama are so frequent he should schedule a visit with a urologist.

Yep, I get into debate's a fair amount with my hard left friends and they about burst a vein when I show them how Obama has not only embraced but has expanded the Bush Doctrine. I keep asking you were so outspoken and protested GW, where are you now when Obama is expanding it? If they respond it's only the same excuses the Bush supporters gave .....

Reality, same asshole just a different mask

Re: Someone just leaked Obama's rules for assassinating U.S. Citizens

I'm betting this "leak" was just another way for this corrupt Administration to get it's message out.

Of course when they "leaked" about Obama being killed it led to the deaths of a lot of Seal Team 6 members.

Guess when they killed that young American non-terrorist teen with a drone strike they let their fascism get a little too bold for now.

the media would be all over this if it was Bush doing it.

A) I wouldn't doubt that he had
B) The Media should be all over it regardless
C) The media's reaction does not excuse the act.
