I looked all over, couldn't find any posting for THIS MORNING'S announcement from the BLS ...

Unemployment rises to 7.9 percent, economy adds 157,000 jobs | The Ticket - Yahoo! News
The unemployment rate rose from 7.8 in December to 7.9 percent in January, but the economy added 157,000 new jobs last month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly report released Friday morning.

The report indicates that job gains were seen in retail trade, construction, health care and wholesale trade, while employment edged down in the transportation and warehousing industries.

The additional 157,000 jobs added is less than the 196,000 jobs added in December, according to the revised numbers.

The number of unemployed persons overall rose from 12.2 million in December to 12.3 million in January.
Of course, the report is grossly inaccurate, as the number of unemployed didn't rise "from 12.2 million in December to 12.3 million in January", first of all because the report we received this morning from the BLS is mostly for DECEMBER, the second week in December through the first week in January, so it is hugely more accurate to state that the number of unemployed rose "from 12.2 million in NOVEMBER to 12.3 million in DECEMBER", and second because the quick-calc number is grossly inaccurate, the true unemployment rate maintaining around 14% and thus the number of truly unemployed, those who want work and are out of work and would take a job if one were available, is millions higher.

So .. considering that unemployment went up in the month of increased Christmas retail spending, yeah, anyone who thinks we're on the road to recovery is suffering from pot-hole thinking.

The quick-calc unemployment rate went up to 7.9% even while hundreds of thousands more American citizens dropped off the counting radar.

But should we be surprised?

The do-nothing Obama administration and the do-nothing House of Reps are all pretty much doing nothing state-of-emergency heroic to kick out the illegals, stop out- and in- sourcing of our jobs, encourage the return of manufacturing, computer programming, assembly, etc. to America ..

.. And instead are falling all over themselves to see who can be seen as the champion to 20 million trespassers, identity-forgers and jobs/classrooms/other resources stealers who aren't even American citizens.

Remember the revolt mantra "Throw the bums out!"?

Well, I'd like to add "By any means possible!"

D.C. behavior is a crying shame right now.

8,500,000 people no longer even counted.

Nice rant! Just what, if anything, do you want our congress critters to do about the high unemployment rate? They are currently busy trying to "transform" illegal labor into legal labor, instead of fining/jailing the millions of employers that hire them, causing them to self deport. They will talk of secure borders and "tough enforcemnt" of laws employers of "illegals" but, of course, Obama will do none of that just as he does not do that now. What we are in for is more amnesty, higher unemployment and a new wave of "guest workers" to replace the ones told that they no longer have to work those "bad" jobs anymore.

Anyone else see how MSNBC received the jobs numbers news? Despite the uptick in unemployment to 7.9%, it was really good news, donchaknow.
Why, you ask? Well because it really means that people are out looking for work again ... they rejoined the workforce. See? Good news.
While that much is true, they didn't mention how many LEFT the workforce in January ... (170K)

Yep, "bad" jobs like construction work. The ONLY reason congress is going to make illegals legal is for votes, there is no way in Hell this is good for our economy or our country. Letting Mexicans take jobs when there is not even enough jobs for Americans makes wages go down and unemployment go up and everybody F***** knows it!

Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
- Mark Twain,

1). Create a repatriation of foreign investments opportunity for large businesses. If the money creates jobs it can be brought home and invested tax free. That is by far the easiest and most simple thing to do.

2). Create a new tax code that is by far more simple and meets our needs at least in the near future ( with growth ). That would be harder.

3). Dump obamafarce care.

Yep. Our congress critters simply look at polls get in a hurry and craft moronic laws that appease the masses. Of course illegal labor works cheap and depresses wages, but it also increases profits for those that use it. By turning illegal aliens into "legal" guest workers the employers keep the cost of labor down and are then obeying the law - not that Obama would ever charge anyone with breaking it anyway. It is truely insane to grant amnesty (now called a "path to citizenship") to illegals, since it simply encourages more to come and get in on the deal (or the next deal). The republicants are falling all over themselves to appear to be doing something "bipartisan", while letting Obama and the demorats continue to borrow and spend, basically with no limits. The only way to get wages up is to eliminate the use of illegal labor and to impose tariffs on the cheap imports that keep anyone in the US from providing those goods/services here - that will not happen becuase the current system is VERY profitable for those buying favors from our congress critters (in both parties) now. Employers are allowed to pay super low wages ONLY because the federal/state gov't will make up the difference using some 70+ "income based" assistance programs.

For new immigrants, an 'American nightmare' in Los Angeles

Once a promising destination for foreign jobseekers and war refugees, the City of Angels is rolling up its ladder of opportunity.

(Excerpt)

"A small group of day laborers clustered around the exit. Jose Perez, 22, and about a dozen other men whistled, waved and shouted at passing vehicles, hoping to get some work. They’ll do just about anything, Perez said, from landscaping to putting together a swing set. He looked concerned but resilient. He said he hadn’t found work in several days.

Then a gray Lexus rolled to a stop and an electric window slid down. The driver extended a manicured finger in Perez’s direction, her blonde perm hardly moving above large, dark sunglasses."

So 6 or 7 years ago 8,500,000 people had jobs.

Unbelievable. And for MSNBC to try and put a bow on this is ridiculous.

The mass hysteria event is at full tilt. You know, the libs who refuse to accept the truth.

That their ideology and their president are total failures.

How can unemployment "jump" to 7.9 while adding jobs in the process? Oh yeah it can't.

Of course progressives will somehow try to portray that it can...

I love how they never talk about how many jobs were lost. Sorry but 1 + -3 is -2.. but hip-hop hurray for the +1.

Hey once we have amnesty, the unemployment rolls will drop by millions in a day.

On the other hand, since "immigrants" can't find work in the USA, they stay home and Obama can say border enforcement is under control so we can go right to amnesty. See how things work themselves out?

Lets look at the number of jobs created during President Bush term in office (It's not a pretty picture).

What on Earth are you talking about? The reference week in December was the week of December 9-15 and the reference week in January was the week of January 6-12. November has nothing to do with it. The reference week is almost always the week that contains the 12th (November 2012 used the week of 4-10 because otherwise the interviewers would have been trying to get hold of people Thanksgiving week.

and second because the quick-calc number is grossly inaccurate, the true unemployment rate maintaining around 14% and thus the number of truly unemployed, those who want work and are out of work and would take a job if one were available, is millions higher.
Please show your math on that. Even if you include everyone not in the labor force who says they want a job, regardless of ability to accept or if they've ever looked for work, that rate would only be 11.7%*

The quick-calc unemployment rate went up to 7.9% even while hundreds of thousands more American citizens dropped off the counting radar.
Untrue. Hell, more people were added to the population due to revisions to Census population controls. So more people were counted than last month. No idea where you're getting the idea that anyone "dropped off" unless you're looking at the increase in Not in the Labor Force and think that means people leaving the labor force.

*From Table A-1
Unemployed = 12,332,000
Labor Force = 155,654,000 so that UE rate is 12,332,000/155,654,000 = 7.9%
Adding in the 6,631,000 Not in the Labor Force "who currently want a job" gives us (12,332,000 + 6,631,000)/(155,654,000 + 6,631,000) = 11.7% Note that about 55% of those "who currently want a job" haven't looked for work in over a year and of those who have looked in the last year, about 20% couldn't accept a job if offered.

We just need more Government Spending! Anyone who disagrees is stupid!

Oh no, another tea partier from the "dollars are sentient and know who spends them" school.

Spending almost always creates jobs. The issue is what you spend on. If you spend on the military you produce few jobs. If you spend on education, infrastructure, health care, you produce a lot. Join the modern world and modern economy!
