Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about[W: 55]

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

Hope it felt good. :rofl

Actually it did. The problem is I have to watch it, because it's just like Pringles. Once you pop, you just can't stop

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

The Pastor doubled down on stoopid not to mention lying when she claimed on TV she DID leave $6 (17%) on the table.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

Can anyone tell me when the usual tip went from 15% to 18%, why, and how come I didn't get to vote on it?

I'm not a fan of auto tips, a tip should be at the discretion of the customer.

I've been out with several couples and a party of 8 at fine dining restaurant can see a bill easily over $400. So the server gets tipped $72 for an hour and half work? At one table?

Servers at fine restaurants can make 100k a year, more than many of the people they are serving who actually have a college degree to justify their salary.

Who cares? Just give 15% if you don't like it and don't go to applebee's. lol.

Moderator's Warning:
Keep it down guys. Talk about the issue not what lean you think each other are.

I don't mind them on a party of six or more. I completely understand the reasoning. Having been a waitress myself, I've seen far too many large tables who split the check conveniently forget to add a tip to their share. And far too many people "handling the money" NOT putting in their fair share when the others DO remember.

I do think it should be very clearly shown on the bill -- as in written in red.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

Just a question...has anyone here NOT been upset by the autotip policy at any given restaurant? I am a generous tipper. I usually give well over 20% if my service is even decent. However...if the extent of your service is to bring me a menu, take an order, bring me a glass of something, have to be reminded about a refill, bring me my food, and the whole time be surly about it? **** you. Tip of the day...do your job and I'll give you a tip commensurate to your service.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

That just compounds the issue.

No it doesn't It simplifies the issue. You as an employee do not have the right to post results of transaction between customer and your employer. Whether it is the price charged for your new roof or the cost of meal or your tipping policies.

The fact the pastor is a jerk is not relevant.

Been that way for a while if you have 8 or more guests at a table.

She should have been fired. Was it heartbreaking? Maybe not, depending on the economy there. Personally, I think she did the smart thing. The Preacher had to account for his meaning of generosity.

What if the service on that party of 6 or 8 was bad?

While a server may give part of their booty to the bus or assistant, the kitchen crew that did most of the work gets squat. How is that fair?

upset? No, not really. My wife used to be a waitress for a few years and during her time, they always stuck her with the 8+ party tables and she would get stiffed on tips with most of them. It wasn't because of lack of service either. Many other waiters and waitresses have the same issues which is why they started the autotip.

Bottom line I guess is, if you don't like the policies at a restaraunt don't work there or support them. I wouldn't blame people though for being upset and not supporting establishments that use atuotip for 8+ party tables. I guess I see both sides of the issue with atuotip.

you don't return

you might also have a word with the manager before leaving, explaining your decision not to spend your money there in the future

And this does happen as well. However, the people do have a choice not to support that establishment again.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

How is that fair?

The kitchen staff is usually paid a higher stable wage than the servers. I remember back in the 90s the waitresses would only get $2 an hour versus $5.50+ that the kitchen crew got.

I have favorite restaurants and favorite waiters. I won't discontinue frequenting them over one bad night with a new server. But the way you tell a server you were unhappy is by leaving a smaller tip, maybe 15%, maybe 10 if it was really bad (cold food, wrong order, etc.) without having to involve the manager which may end up in a harder rebuke then you wanted.

If that were the case, I would speak to the manager. Actually, I'd speak to the manager way BEFORE the check came.

Even at low end places like Denny's the servers are making 15-20 an hour, at high end, 75-150. They don't have to split with the kitchen as they would get something from all the servers, but they shouldn't be making minimum wage while the server is making as much as someone with a college degree. Generally we're not talking about chefs, but the kitchen help who does the prep, etc.

your choice to accept weak service
your choice to not involve the manager
but when you say down and ordered in a party, where it was posted that an X% gratuity will be added to the checks of parties having Y number of persons, you have obligated yourself to pay that auto tip

Since we're griping here's another one. Sometimes an establishment will put out a special or coupon but insist you pay the tip on what the amount would have been. If you're tipping on the amount of the bill, then that's what it should be. Someone said "It's not the fault of the server" but if the server is unhappy with the pricing policies of the place they can work somewhere else.

and if you cannot afford the tip, then you cannot afford the meal, and should not eat there

I understand if it's printed on the menu that you are legally obligated, I'm saying sometimes the server doesn't deserve it but the customer has no choice.

I've never seen a restaurant insist on that. I've seen them ask their diners to do it, but never seen it be mandatory. I like being a generous tipper. Servers work hard for their money. They deserve it. I overtip off-setting others who think like you do -- so that waitstaff can make a decent living.

I see both sides, and as I said...I usually tip better than if they ran the autotip. I simply don't like the presumption that well...Im going to get autotipped anyway so boom...bad service.
