Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years[W: 395]

Re: Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years

Where, or WHERE, did I do any such thing? Please show me where I actually do this thing I never did because I am quite certain I never did it.

A "money hoarding " response in general, especially in a thread about a shrinking US GDP seems to hold certain political connotations, dont you think ?

I get your response, but in reference to a shrinking economy its a "chicken or the egg" type of scenario.

Re: Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years

I like how defense spending is important all of a sudden.

I'm left scratching my head a bit. Is defense spending bad, or good? What excuse will the Obama Administration look for next?

Only if one chooses to allow their overactive imagination to take over rather than look at what is being said and what it was in response to.

It was made in response to a specific claim, though. It was not made in reference to a shrinking economy.

United States GDP Growth Rate

What I can't figure out is how 3rd quarter growth could be 3.1% and then just tank in the fourth quarter. You would think Christmas alone would be enough to spark the economy a little. I'm beginning to wonder if those 3rd quarter numbers weren't a little bit "massaged"...

oh that's an easy one.

The 3.1% was falsely inflated by massive Federal spending with borrowed money.

That is, there was NO private sector growth, it was just more of the slimy Democrat tactics to try and mislead the low information voter.

Re: Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years

You make NO sense. Funding based on a per student basis would make those in low cost areas into super schools and those in high cost areas suck. Imagine what the same per student/per teacher funding for Brownsville and Dallas would do for "fairness". Should teacher pay be "evened out" as well?
The wage differences are likely not as large you think they are. I surmise that because you picked a mid-range one for your example.

It is entirely possible that area wage adjustments should to be applied to the funding. But that is hardly rocket science, it is certainly far more solvable and addressable than the current issues.

P.S. You mentioned HISD but did you notice outside the core the little piss ant ISDs? Stafford ISD for example, to the SW by Sugarland.

EDIT: Getting teachers to work out in Podunk is more expensive than you think. Podunk social life, and often employment opportunity for spouses, tends to be considered substandard.

Makes sense... Just look at how the jobs numbers were "massaged" a month before the election.

Or it was because of the actual inflation rate itself fluctuating from quarter to quarter, but six of one, half a dozen of the other. I am sure QE4 will be better than QE3--I think I can, I think I can.........

Re: Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years

Got anything to back that up Grim?

Sorry, I'm not taking the bait... You and Redress need to come up with a better strategy to change the topic of discussion, because this one has definitely lost it's effectiveness.

LOL

So you bring up a change in the discussion and then duck out when you get called on to back up your [baseless] diversion?

But you have to realize results don't matter to Obamabots as perception is reality in their world thus this loser continues for four more years destroying the U.S. economy by growing the nanny state

Dwight, you're in H-town ?

Giggity....

I can't imagine ANYONE in their right mind wanting to send their kids to HISD.....that is unless you want your child to graduate as a FULL FLEDGED moron.

The "piss ant " ISD's like Friendswood, Katy and a score of higher performing HISD's are actually known for turning out kids who are.......LITERATE.

WHAT!?!?!

Is this a ****ing episode of the twilight zone.

My brain is collapsing in on itself.

You said the numbers were massaged.

I said show me proof and I'M CHANGING THE SUBJECT?

Is it clear to you now why we all know you to be one of the most dishonest posters in this sites history?

I live to the north up here in the sticks (but not in The Woodlands), no where near HISD really.

As for piss ant, we were talking size. Stafford ISD is positively tiny. Most people in the city couldn’t tell you where it was. They have a single school for each age group.

Yes, you are correct....in my best Ed McMahon voice...

They actually are known for it and also known for being "promoted down" too. That's when they're so ineffective, so incompetent that their superiors promote them to get them the hell away from everybody. Happens allot in City Govt.

We had a Mayor that used to be the police Chief that could barely string two sentences together. Mayor Harold Brown. The guy was a full on moron and he excelled in local politics.

Oh ok. Well the smaller School District's seem to fair better academically. HISD was out of control when my Lib parents tried to put in in FLEMMING JR HIGH....Ghetto prison for black kids and unfortunate white kids...

I showed up for two weeks, convinced them that their little "social experiment" wasn't going to fly and wen't back to private school to continue with my real education in accelerated and gifted courses. 7 th grade in Flemming is about a 3rd grade level. Their accelerated course was 4 rth grade at best.

HISD is too big and has become unmanageable. Enrolling a kid there is akin to child abuse.

My understanding is that there are magnet school system but it has become something of a dumping ground and it may indeed be too big to function properly.

Which of course really screams out for serious reform but the problems also run deeper into the herding that has happened over generations.

Could have been worse, your parents could have moved a little north and sent you to Adeline ISD. It is on the bubble for dissolution last I heard.

P.S. A friend of mine works on the east side of town but he is in an ISD charter school (not sure it is HISD, though) which makes it a bit like a magnet school. The benefit for him is that the kids/parents are generally pretty motivated towards school, even if they have whatever learning difficulties, so is somewhat insulated from that. I actually know socially a number of teachers in the various ISDs, it just worked out that way.

Know of him well. I moved to Houston in 1992 and live north of the city. Love it here but glad I don't live in the city.

I attended magnet schools in HISD, and I can assure you I am no moron.

But then again, I was the kid who actually questioned when his teacher played a video saying Reagan was a racist who hates the poor and Clinton was the great american messiah...so consider me an anomaly.

Yea I guess I'm guilty of making a a generalization but I can't think of more than 5 schools that are worth sending a kid to. Are you the one that started " the dreaded smurfs'' rumor ?

Re: Economy shrinks for first time in 3 1/2 years

We didn't cut spending OR raise taxes in the 4th quarter of 2012.
Government consumption expenditures and gross investment, the two facets of federal outlays that actually plug into the GDP equation, decreased by 15 percent.
