Washington (CNN) -- On one side were pegboard panels mounted with various assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons -- including a Bushmaster similar to the one used in last month's Newtown school massacre.
Behind the stage stood police officers supporting a renewed ban on such firepower. One by one, victims of gun violence told their brief stories and expressed support for a new federal ban being proposed by Sen. Dianne Feinstein on some assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons.

Feinstein's proposal would upgrade an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and also outlaw ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
She said the goal is to "dry up the supply of these weapons over time."

Damn right we can't, because that isn't the root of the problem.

If you look at international violent crime rates, especially homicides per capita, the US is actually middle of the road. Many nations with far FAR lower rates of firearm ownership have FAR higher rates of murder.

Violent crime is primarily a factor of:

1. Corrupt or inefficient law enforcement.
2. Povery and/or wealth inequity.
3. Gangs/tribes/factions
4. Drug trade.

In the case of mass shootings by lunatics, our primary problem is an inadequate mental heathcare system with too few institutions for the dangerously insane and too few mechanisms to detect them before they kill. Incidentally the worst school mass-murder in US history was committed with a bomb... 1927 if I recall correctly.

1. The executive orders have noting to do with a gun ban. Liberals said that because conservative tried to claim other wise and that he was issuing unconstitutional executive orders. It's not liberals fault that people like J-Mack can't comprehend that.

2. No one has issued any legislation that involves gun grabs. The legislation involves banning sales of these items, but it does not involve anyone going out and grabbing guns that are already owned by citizens. So you can all let go of that big wet dream of fighting the evil tyrannical government that you've been waiting for the last 4 years.

3. The source is the daily caller. I can't find a credible well known source saying that the ban includes shotguns and handguns, and I find that hard to believe. I don't find it hard to believe that some would buy it so quickly, hook line and sinker.
