Well, I never doubted you could read, as I've often commended your comments. But in context, I was saying if police have such problems, can we expect better from civilians? My experience, which I always note is limited and not equal to a real study, tells me we shoot each other a lot more than we will ever protect ourselves from criminals. And I gave some examples.

Now on one of these threads I linked study numbers that back that up as well.

I think the limitations being proposed are minor, and neither fix any problem or deny people the right to protect themselves. How far they can go will eventually be decided in the courts. And I'll easily live with whatever they rule.

Yeah? I don't know. Before a terrorist hijacking a plane was a probability. It could happen, every so often it did. Now, I can't get through the airport without TSA searching the bejesus out of me and treating me as something less than human.

If the police have such problems, should we strip the People of their ability to defend themselves? The government isn't doing the best of jobs...so the solution is more government?

Sometimes he did when he felt it necessary and that, as a responsible adult, was his decision to make. He had ready access to a variety of weapons.

I might agree with you if I thought they would do better, but as I think they would do worse and add to the death toll numbers and not protect much of anything, I'm hesitant. At the end of the day, well trained people are better than untrained people.

What? Man you really need to go back and read what we were talking about before coming to an asinine conclusion.

I don't know if they would do better or not, and aggregate over a large enough population and you'll have a non-zero percentage that don't. But I don't think I have the rightful force to stop them. At the end of the day, well trained people ARE better than untrained people. But perhaps it's better just to make available general training rather than restricting particularly given the demonstrated failure modes of government.
