You guys need to get your story together. Do you think the AR-15s and the high capacity magazines have only cosmetic differences from other guns legally available, or do they represent a unique weapon vital to personal defense by law abiding citizens that no other gun can fulfill?

Btw, one of the most important responsibilities of the federal government is to promote the general welfare of its citizens.

We'd do a lot better to spend that money on more armed security at schools.

Part of that money is going to districts to help improve security at their schools.

What story do we need to put together on whether it is the Feds job to put more Local Cops on the Streets? So where did you see that part in the Constitution where it says that Government can infringe with choice?

Yeah, that's true, I recall hearing that. My State is already voting on a plan to put at least one armed police officer in every school. The State Supe of schools is also talking about allowing appropriately trained staff with CWP to carry as well, but that will take legislative approval I think.

The 1994 ban was never ruled to be an infringement of the Constitution, nor was there ever a single legal challenge on that basis during the entire decade it was in effect.

The federal government is the only body that can require a federal ban in all states and require background check for all gun sales in all the states. The welfare of US citizens are one of the chief responsibilities of the federal government. I am very happy to see a president finally providing leadership to reduce gun violence in this country!
Not sure it would have mattered if he had the AR or not considering he was packing other pistols with him that were never on the initial ban. The jury is still out on whether the AR was ever in the school to begin with. Last I heard it was still in the car parked outside in front of the school during the attack. I am not saying that is a fact just saying that is the last I heard of it.

Do you have any reports that she purchased the AR before or after the ban? I ask because I have not heard either way. Would it have made any difference to you that he killed them with the pistols instead of the AR?

No no, it's the feds job to declare a place "Gun Free". It is the responsibility of the criminal to obey the law.

"But the AR-15 style rifle the most popular rifle in America, according to gun dealers was also the weapon of choice for Adam Lanza, who the police said used one made by Bushmaster on Friday to kill 20 young children and six adults in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., in a massacre that has horrified the nation.

The increasing appearance of the rifle in rampage killings an AR-15 was used by James E. Holmes, who is accused of opening fire and killing 12 people in a movie theater in Colorado in July, police officials say, and by Jacob Roberts, who shot and killed two people and then took his own life in a shopping mall last week near Portland, Ore. has rekindled the debate about its availability and its appeal to killers bent on mass slaughter."

Given that Lanza's mother was 52 when her son killed her, she would have had to have been younger than 18 to have bought it before the 1994 ban. I think you would agree that is very unlikely.

Shootings with pistols do not usually have the high numbers of kills that are usual by guns with high capacity magazines.

What good would one armed police officer do. Or even a few administrators armed. Most schools are pretty spread out. You'd have to have one or two in every hall all day or every teacher armed. When i think back to my school days I can remember some teachers that I wouldn't trust with a water gun much less a real gun.
I confess, I did it, I let the dogs out.
