Dozens held after Islamists attack Algerian gas field!!!![W:280]

Clumsy attempt by the Algerian ''special forces..

Mokhtar Belmokhtar was a cigarette smuggler...He was the head man..

I can only think that this may have been an attempt to gain his passage to ''Paradise''

From a fundamental Islamists point of view..

He knew that neither him or his followers would get out of there alive!!

Well that's just wonderful, and rather clearly points out the flawed thinking of blaming the wrong people....The Algerians acted, rightly or wrongly, that wouldn't have been necessary had the terrorists not taken the facility. The blame for the deaths of the hostages lays with the terrorists....But thank you for being the second person to blame the wrong people, and highlight the flaw.

I think it could have been handled better..

Are we using "Predators" in Mali?

Not that I know of. I'll have to call up the CIA and ask them. Just because we don't know about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Armchair BS.

I actually think such is considered pretty integral to any rescue type scenerio. But I am not an expert in the field

Maybe you should vet that to the Algerian government...It was their call.

Yes it was..but refused any help from more experienced special services..who may have succeeded in ending the problem by negotiating with the kidnappers..thus avoiding a total massacre..

So when you spouted off about using Predators, and we are talking about Mali, and Algeria, you were just deflecting the point...Got it...And you can try and call the CIA if you wish, but my guess is that they won't save you from your obtuse statements either.

Just because we don't know about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

That is just about the dumbest thing I think I have ever read in here....Can I use it as my sig?

Negotiate? With terrorists? You're kidding right? Algeria has been in a long, and bloody fight with Islamic extremists..Negotiate?

Sorry, that's weak...

I think it could have been handled better..

British SAS, US Seal Team 6, German Spec Forces, Israeli Spec Forces all would have handled it better. Sending in helicopter gunships against a convoy was not a smart move. Not precise enough when hostages are mixed in with terrorists.

On the other hand, at least the Algerians made a move. They had to move faster than anyone would want to because the facilities had been set afire. The whole facility was getting ready to blow up. They had little time to plan carefully, they just had move right away. On top of it, we don't know how many hostages the terrorists executed as the last attack began. The best counter terrorist unit in the world can't do anything about it if terrorists outright kill the hostages before they can be rescued.

Then again you blame the wrong people, so thanks for your opinion on what you think should have been done, but unless you are an adviser to the Algerian government, then what you think is irrelevant. Thank God.

If that's the dumbest thing you've ever read, you've obviously never read your own posts

I think you need to have more confidence in yourself.

So since you're also not an adviser to the Algerian government, what you think is irrelevant. So since what everyone thinks is irrelevant, are we done here?

Sorry, that's weak...

So neither the UK..or the US has ever negotiated with terrorists according to you??

Yep, with you....Then again, you never started, so you were always done....:)

Are you an adviser to the Algerian government?

If the answer is no then by your own equation, what you think is irrelevant.

Note sure where I blamed the wrong people. But if you are confused the Algerians can respond to such an incident, screw it up, and the original fault would still lay at the feet of the hostage takers.

Ok, lay it out for me...How'd the Algerians "screw it up"?
