US Government Tells Computer Users to DISABLE Java.....

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is advising people to temporarily disable the Java software on their computers to avoid potential hacking attacks.

The recommendation came in an advisory issued late Thursday, following up on concerns raised by computer security experts.

Experts believe hackers have found a flaw in Java's coding that creates an opening for criminal activity and other high-tech mischief.

Java is a widely used technical language that allows computer programmers to write a wide variety of Internet applications and other software programs that can run on just about any computer's operating system.

Oracle Corp. bought Java as part of a $7.3 billion acquisition of the software's creator, Sun Microsystems, in 2010.....snip~

It would be a serious problem since many banks use Java in their online banking systems.

However saying that, I find it a bit of an overreaction.. there are far more serious "hacks" out there that get zero media or government time.. mostly because the government uses them to spy on people.

    Government Says to Disable Java

The U.S.

The Department of Homeland Security is claiming that Java has a flaw and is open to hackers to play around in. It seems like this site and just about everywhere you go these days requires you to have Java enabled. I wasn't exactly sure how I could go about disabling Java so here is a site that tells you how to do it. You can also disable Java through whatever browser you use via Internet Tools.

Well I run Windows XP 64 bit software so the instructions given in the above website were not exactly the way I went about disabling Java. Well, it's disabled and now Google refuses to search for topics. It keeps telling me that I need to download some software. Well this is one way to hamstring computer users. Everything on the Internet these days appears to be controlled by Java.

I just went back in re-enabled Java. Google no longer searches if you don't have Java enabled. I will just have to live dangerously and keep Java active.

Everything and its mother runs on Java, disabling it would cripple my computer, as well take Minecraft away from me. I'll take my chances.
