Yes children, guns do save lives.

"Melinda Herman grabbed a handgun and hid in a crawl space with her two children when a man broke in last week and approached the family at their home northeast of Atlanta, police said. Herman called her husband on the phone, and with him reminding her of the lessons she recently learned at a shooting range, Herman opened fire, seriously wounding the burglary suspect.

Oddly enough, not done with a 30-round magazine or an assault rifle.

Is there actually any record of an assault rifle being used in a mass shooting? I ask because non of the mass shootings involved an assault rifle. An assult rifle has burst or automatic. The only way you are getting an assault weapon is if was made before and registered before May 19, 1986,the required licenses and a **** load of cash or you obtain one illegally.

Indeed. It was done with the type of weapon responsible for the most number of deaths in the US....the handgun.

Spoken like a true lib. When confronted with the fact that a gun saved a family's lives all you can do is find some way to put a negative spin on a very positive situation. If she had done this with a rifle you would say. oddly enough not done with a pistol. She used the weapon she had and if she had a so called assault rifle the result would have been the same. lives saved.

sawyer, these folks can't accept that people are willing and capable of doing things for themselves. The idea that they wouldn't call the police first and then just huddle there and hope the cavalry arrives in time is totally against their view of the world.

Or by a criminal. This was classic use of a firearm in self defense. Nobody is asserting that only high capacity magazines or even rifles be used exclusively, simply that since they are rarely used in crime it is silly to target them as being the "root cause" of gun crime. Attempting to eliminate .2% (or less) of available guns used in crime will not be the magic law that ends gun crime, it will simply weaken the 2A protections a bit more for the next "small step" in the "right" direction, which will surely be asserted as "needed" to be taken.
