This is the best option IMO. Afghanistan is not Iraq. Iraq had many people that wanted to help themselves, had some sort of national pride, and had natural resources they could use to make their country viable economically. Afghanistan, on the other hand, has very few citizens who can see past their own nose, barely even has a recognizable national flag, and has nothing by poppy to offer to anyone. Nothing we do over there will impact any of these things. We could get rid of the poppy and offer wheat subsidies instead, but, their people have zero interest in that and we don't have the guts for it. Hopefully Karzai is a douche about the SOFA and we can't get immunity. That was the dealbreaker in Iraq. I think Pres Obama would be secretly okay with no SOFA just like he was in Iraq. That is the easiest way for him to save political face and Karzai to look strong to his people.

The US has 80,000 troops in Europe with most of them in Germany and Italy so I would not worry much about our leaving "security in place" in the region. It seems to be US tradition to keep many thousands of our troops overseas "just in case". If the US feels the need for practice in some similar terrain, including some active armed drug smugglers, perhaps our own southern border is good place to station them.

We shouldn't have soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq or places that are not America.

I am assuming you meant this to be in BN, not the polls section.

Not sure how he saves political face. He added troops in 2009 to fulfill a campaign promise. By leaving no troops he is saying that I sent kids to die in Afghanistan for years for cheap political reasons, nothing else. All those who called Bush a warmonger and let Obama slide because he is a democrat should be ashamed of themselves. They put their party before the nation's best interests and allowed innocent kids to be sent to their death for nothing.
