Looks like the Senator from Texas plus Rubio, Cruz and Graham.....think otherwise. Course they would know just how much work Hagel has done as a Republican and since he has been in D.C. despite most of his Absences from MOST Republican Caucuses.

Other than a ringing endorsement from right-wing punditry land, exactly what qualifications where you looking for?
Dept of Defense expertise, executive expertise, related education. The job of the Secretary of Defense is to adminster the largest military in the world, millions of soliders, and advise the president on national defense policy. Being a politician does not qualify someone for this. Compare this to say, David Petreus, who, ignoring, his personal issues, greaduated from the military academy, was a four star general, 37 years in the military, commander in Iraq etc. RIght there is someone who is more qualified.

You're pathetically indebted to a bankrupt ideology.

Perhaps you could stop wasting time posting nonsensical hyperbole and do some profound inner searching to find out just whats wrong with you.

You kniw, do a personal inventory.

Re: Obama expected to nominate Chuck Hagel as secretary of Defense

WASHINGTON Republican opposition to Chuck Hagel as the next defense secretary swelled from inside and outside the Senate Thursday as a former Senate colleague launched a campaign to block his nomination.

Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator who served for a decade with Hagel, said his grassroots organization, Patriot Voices, will lead a nationwide campaign to stop Hagel from succeeding Leon Panetta as head of the Pentagon.

Although Hagel served in the Senate for two terms and was a member of the Foreign Relations and Intelligence panels, several Republicans and Democrats say he didn't build many close relationships and tended to chart his own course.

Santorum, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP presidential nomination last year, recently led a successful fight to defeat a U.N. treaty on the disabled, convincing several Senate Republicans to oppose ratification. He overcame such vital treaty supporters as McCain and former Sen. Bob Dole.....snip~

Looks like he will need 60 to get past the Filibuster.....huh?

Of the 45 Senate Republicans, just 25 served with Hagel. Among the newer, more moderate members, Hagel is certain to face a tough time persuading Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., who has been at the forefront in pushing for unilateral sanctions against Iran and is a fierce proponent of Israel.

Do you think this Mope's face tells the story?

Re: Obama expected to nominate Chuck Hagel as secretary of Defense

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Friday dismissed criticism of Chuck Hagel's hesitant congressional testimony and insisted that it expects the Senate to confirm him as defense secretary.

One day after Hagel was roughed up in a grueling confirmation hearing, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Hagel did a "fine job" and the Obama administration would be stunned if Republicans tried to block the nomination of a decorated Vietnam combat veteran and former two-term GOP senator.

"The president believes Sen. Hagel will make an excellent secretary of defense and that he will be confirmed and he looks forward to working with Sen. Hagel in that position as we continue to advance our national security priorities," Carney told reporters.

Well we all know just how Obama like to spin things.....huh?

Hagel seemed ill-prepared under withering cross-examination from Senate Armed Services Committee Republicans in nearly eight hours of testimony. He was repeatedly pressed about past statements and votes on Israel, Iran and nuclear weapons.

But Republican opposition grew on Friday as Sen. Roy Blunt, a member of the committee, announced that he would vote against Hagel. About a dozen Republicans have said they will oppose their former colleague and several others have indicated that they are likely to vote no.

Unable to elicit a simple response, McCain said the record should show that Hagel refused to answer. And he made it clear that he would have the final word — with his vote, which he said would be influenced by Hagel's refusal to answer yes or no.

"I think history has already made a judgment about the surge, sir, and you're on the wrong side of it," McCain told Hagel.

I'm sorry and I regret it," Hagel said. "On the use of 'intimidation,' I should have used 'influence,' I think would have been more appropriate.

I happen to think enlisted military personnel are every bit as qualified if not more qualified than a paper pushing general. Just my opinion.
