Obama expected to nominate Chuck Hagel as secretary of Defense

Re: Hagel for SOD

Saturday Night Live parodies the recent confirmation hearings for Chuck Hagel. The skit was pulled before airtime. No indication how it happened, but one must suspect that the Lobby was offended.

The sketch culminates when a crotchety “Sen. John McCain” insists that Hagel answer a hypothetical question: would he agree to “go on national television and perform oral sex on a donkey” if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu determined it was vital to Israel’s security? When Hagel says no, McCain declares that he can’t vote to confirm him.

Philip Weiss:

' A "cultural breakthrough" is Sullivan's description of the Saturday Night Live skit in which Senator John McCain challenges Chuck Hagel to agree to fellate a donkey on the orders of Benjamin Netanyahu for the security of Israel ... Even friends of mine who don't know the issue are fulminating about the Hagel hearing. And remember that those gatekeepers and lobby pooh-poohers included the Atlantic Magazine, David Remnick, Leon Wieseltier, Leslie Gelb, Walter Russell Mead, Jeffrey Goldberg, among other eminent journalists.'

More on SNL's fellate-a-donkey for Israel skit

Re: Hagel for SOD

The Repubs will cave and Nominate him. McCain will even support the nomination in the End. He already did come out and state, "never has the Republican party Filibustered a Presidential nominee for office". He don't think it is time to start now.

Graham says no Confirmation until Hagel and Brennan give up more on Benghazi.....but he wont be able to sway the rest.

Professor Hagel

Hagel’s Georgetown syllabus littered with anti-Israel authors.

As a professor at Georgetown University, secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel taught a foreign policy course.....
Constructed on the premise that America’s global supremacy is waning, Hagel’s seminar featured writings that criticize America’s standing in the world, advocate in favor of shuttering American military bases, and refer to Israel as guilty of war crimes.....

Those are just facts.
1. America's global supremacy is waning, and should wane. No one elected us kings or police of the world.
2. The USA has far too many military bases-How many do you think we have and should have?
3. Israel probably is guilty of war crimes. Certainly the settlements violate international law.

Yeah, we should be like water and Ebb and Flow.....huh?

Well myself.....I would agree with the issue that we have far to many bases as well as Embassies.

A People without a Country are a people without Rights.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A bitterly divided Senate panel on Tuesday approved President Barack Obama's nomination of Chuck Hagel to be the nation's defense secretary in a rancorous session at which Republican questioned the former GOP senator's truthfulness and challenged his patriotism.

On a party-line vote of 14-11, the Armed Services Committee voted to send the nomination to the full Senate, where Republicans have threatened to delay a vote on the president's choice to succeed Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

Democrats have the votes to confirm Hagel, a twice-wounded Vietnam combat veteran and former two-term Nebraska senator, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would press ahead with a vote on the most divisive nominee of Obama's second-term national security team.....snip~

Senate panel approves Hagel for Pentagon chief

It's what I told ya.....huh? They approved Hagel. Wanna Look up McCain's Vote? Reid will fast track the vote today. He will be approved as the Republicans don't have enough votes to even filibuster the appointment.

A People without a Country are a people without Rights.

China has more people and more money, so they are likely to have more international influence, even without achieving military dominance.

In my view, all people are entitled to basic human rights and all people should be treated as equals.

“Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war and until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation, until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes. And until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race, there is war. And until that day, the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, rule of international morality, will remain but a fleeting illusion to be pursued, but never attained...”

Such is created with the Law of Opposition or polarity. Cannot have one without the other. Moreover eventually we will find intelligent life in the Universe. Which some are apt to not be human or homosapien. Which then leads us back to that issue over war and peace. Just wont be over race then. But we will still have more of the same.

Facts.....Americas global supremecy is waning right at the time multiple Islamic Israel , America hating Groups are sprouting up. Muslim spring my foot.

2 The US has the obligation to support many of our allies like , South Korea, Israel, Japan and Taiwan.

3. Isreal is guilty of giving in to a enemy that has no concept of peace in mind, that is, unless Israel is destroyed.

4. Obama's destruction of the US military is as planned as he moves us into position to be a second rate European Democracy with 20% unemployment and a weak defense

5. Hagels nomination is so Obams can strip the military's budget under the leadership of a Republican.

Then you should have a real problem with China acheiving more "International Influence".

Although I agree we should be treated equally I do NOT agree that we are all equal.

That said the ideological bunny fairy telling us that human rights will be guaranteed one day is just a line from a song.

A good song but a song no less. Its far more dangerous to live a ideological existence, disconnected from the realities of this world no matter how rough they may be than to be pragmatic, intelligent and fully aware of the injustices that NO Govt has the power to control.

I have concern about China's growing influence due to their terrible human rights record. I don't think it is an issue that should, or can, be addressed with military force. Engage and influence has proven to be the most effective way to change nations-compare North Korea and Viet Nam for evidence. China has also improved in many ways since we resumed relations with them.

Re. Equality-is that why you oppose anti-discrimination laws like the CRA?

How many military bases do you think we have, and how many do you think we should have?

You seem to generally think that the federal government is inefficient and corrupt. Why do you think the military is different and doesn't have any waste and inefficiencies that could be addressed?

Universal human rights is not just a moral imperative, it is the path to peace. A lot of progress has already been made, and much more progress is possible, especially if there is a will amongst enough people to put quality of life for all above personal and national enrichment and power.

I oppose the CRA because giving people a mortgage who would not qualify for a loan any other way has nothing to do with "equality" and everything to do with bankrupting a entire Country and pushing undue hardship on the people it was supposed to help.

Or is that lost on you ? That giving people credit they couldn't handle or a responsibillity that they were not ready to take on actually caused them harm.

Credit scores and maintaing standards have nothing to do with "equality".

Yea Govt unchecked that supports the principles that Obama is pushing is inherintly corrupt and immoral.

His response to improving the economy ? "Growing the middle class".

Unreal.

it is clear you are unfamiliar with the requirements of CRA
regulated banks were evaluated to determine whether they were willing to make creditworthy loans to the members of the communities from which they also received deposits
there was NO obligation/expectation for lenders to make anything other than creditworthy loans to those residents

Or is that lost on you ? That giving people credit they couldn't handle or a responsibillity that they were not ready to take on actually caused them harm.
it is you who is lost. only someone ignorant about our banking system would believe that the bank regulators required banks to make uncreditworthy loans

Credit scores and maintaing standards have nothing to do with "equality".
it would be unfair for banks to take deposits from communities but refuse to then lend to creditworthy applicants residing in those same communities
it was only after an unsatiated secondary market quickly evolved to purchase mortgages projecting a higher rate of return than what was otherwise available due to low fed rates did lenders prey on the unqualified borrowers. that was because the lenders would flip those imprudent credits to the secondary market buyers, who were willing to pay a premium for them. loans made to CRA defined areas not held by the bank were not credited to the lender that originated them for purposes of fulfilling their CRA expectations

Yea Govt unchecked that supports the principles that Obama is pushing is inherintly corrupt and immoral.
that makes no sense

His response to improving the economy ? "Growing the middle class".

Unreal.
makes a lot of sense to me
since the early 70's the wealthy have gotten richer while the middle class income slipped
in a demand driven economy, we need consumers who are going to spend
hence the need to strengthen the middle class' economic standing
