Wow... speaking of personal. This post goes into the inventory of "What to say when you fail at debating the topic" section.

    Re: Hagel for SOD

Oh the irony, Hagel endorsed McCain in a prior GOP presidential nomination, and McCain said he would nominate him for Sec of Defense.

It's as if the conservative mind is a pingpong ball that just bounces from one discredited obstructionist position to the next, with no plan, no core, no values.

i was curious about that, too
Old friends McCain and Hagel spar at hearing – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs
Sen. John McCain fired away at Cabinet nominee Chuck Hagel during his confirmation hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill, repeatedly interrupting his old friend and accusing him of refusing to answer direct questions.
The sharp exchange marked a years-long falling out between two long-time friends and colleagues. Thirteen years ago, McCain, then a presidential candidate, named Chuck Hagel as a man he'd like to see run the Defense Department. ...

Hagel would be the only Republican in Obama's cabinet if confirmed. Course the only reason Obama choose him. Which had nothing to do with him being Qualified for the SOD. Was due to the fact that Hagel is out of the Box not only with Republican Senators but Democrats as well. Several Democrats have had go arounds with Hagel and don't care for him to much.

Still Hagel is on the defensive. Moreover why now.....would Team Obama criticize him after they just got done criticizing Republicans over their Response to his Nomination? One would think Obama would have come to the rescue. Not criticize Hagel for the way he responded to any questions.

But then the party that always puts themselves before their country.....the Democrats are now all in favor of him. Based solely on the fact that Obama choose him. None of them voicing any objections. Voting all in favor with a Republican who has been at odds with his own party is exactly what Obama was looking for. Now he might not get it.....but he will have put Republicans at odds with one another.

    everything is not a conspiracy
i believe Obama nominated hagel because he thought he would make a good secdef; that he served during the cluster**** that was vietnam only adds to his understanding of what works and doesn't work in the military
it would have been very easy for hagel to fall in line with his republican cohort and embrace israel while pushing against iran while also cheering for that cluster**** that was the war in iraq. but he didn't. which indicates he is a stand up guy who thinks for himself. that quality is sorely missing in DC and is sorely needed in the DoD

The reference was to Hagel's performance ... which was surreal - in a bad way ... that's what everyone recognized. You thought it was good?

    e.g.
" "It's somewhere between baffling and incomprehensible," a member of Mr. Obama's own team of advisers on Iran said on Thursday night when asked about Mr. Hagel's stumbling performance on the question during the all-day hearing. The worry was evident in the voice of the official, who would not speak on the record while criticizing the performance of the president's nominee. For those who question whether the no-containment cornerstone of the Obama approach to Tehran is for real, or just diplomatic rhetoric, Mr. Hagel clearly muddled the message, he said. "
