"I used to roll the dice; see the fear in my enemies' eyes... listen as the crowd would sing, 'now the old king is dead, Long Live the King.'.."
This reminds me of the good old Terri Schiavo case. Supporting life confined to being braindead in a bed or picking your nose in a cell is effort wasted. There's no reason to stall them from reaching the gates of heaven or hell if they can't change their destination.
"With me everything turns into mathematics."
"It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well."
"It is truth very certain that, when it is not in one's power to determine what is true, we ought to follow what is more probable." -- Rene Descartes
My Aunt who was a nurse in the 50's told me that severely handicapped new born babies were often left in a side ward..Nil by mouth..
My Grandmother..who was suffering with an aggressive cancer..was in the front room in a bed..the doctor arrived..told us all to say goodbye..even though my grandmother was sitting up and lucid..
30 mins later..she was dead..
Do you know how many people in the US alone die each year because they cant afford treatment or their insurance provider pulls funding? And when they die, many are in massive debt after trying to find funds to cure a lost cause?
Allowing patients to make the choice to forgo life sustaining care and then keeping them comfortable until they die is one thing. It's quite another to do this to patients without asking them in order to save money for the system.Health trusts are thought to have been rewarded with an extra Ł30million for putting more patients on the LCP.
“We do not believe any group of men adequate enough or wise enough to operate without scrutiny or without criticism. We know that the only way to avoid error is to detect it, that the only way to detect it is to be free to inquire. We know that in secrecy error undetected will flourish and subvert”. – J Robert Oppenheimer.
