And what's more: many of these families don't even bother visiting their "loved ones" because they're too busy or perhaps it makes them feel uncomfortable. It's truly pathetic that human beings are allowed to live like that. No dignity, self respect, or hope.

This reminds me of the good old Terri Schiavo case. Supporting life confined to being braindead in a bed or picking your nose in a cell is effort wasted. There's no reason to stall them from reaching the gates of heaven or hell if they can't change their destination.

But having said that I think that euthanasia has been practised for decades..

My Aunt who was a nurse in the 50's told me that severely handicapped new born babies were often left in a side ward..Nil by mouth..

My Grandmother..who was suffering with an aggressive cancer..was in the front room in a bed..the doctor arrived..told us all to say goodbye..even though my grandmother was sitting up and lucid..

    30 mins later..she was dead..

The "care pathway" is where they sedate patients and then withdraw life sustaining care, basically killing them off.

Put the government in charge of health care and then see what happens when the government gets short of money.

The BHS basically pays a bounty for every patient finished off this way. 130,000 patients are killed this way yearly, apparently almost half of them without consent.

The British Health Minister calls the pathway "a great step forward."
I'll believe it when someone other than the British equivalent of the National Enquirer reports on it.

Even the National Enquirer is often more factual and truthful than the Mail....

Yea instead of having your HMO pull funding or deny funding... much better to let the bean counters make such calls than those damn uppity doctors and their fancy non-Christian education.

Do you know how many people in the US alone die each year because they cant afford treatment or their insurance provider pulls funding? And when they die, many are in massive debt after trying to find funds to cure a lost cause?

There is only one reason for doctors to treat clearly-terminal illnesses: they make more money keeping you interminably alive than by letting you die a peaceful death.

As for paying them a bounty. That's just pejorative bull****.
It's right there in the article:

Health trusts are thought to have been rewarded with an extra 30million for putting more patients on the LCP.
Allowing patients to make the choice to forgo life sustaining care and then keeping them comfortable until they die is one thing. It's quite another to do this to patients without asking them in order to save money for the system.

This is not a bounty, for God's sake. First of all, your quote says, "It's thought..." Wow, that's hard news reporting if I ever heard it. Secondly, these people still have to get paid for what they're doing -- even if it's just occupying a bed. Paid for hospice care. Imagine that.
