Americans are living in an Orwellian state argue Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone and historian Peter Kuznick, as they sit down with RT to discuss US foreign policy and the Obama administration’s disregard for the rule of law.

Oliver Stone to RT:

 Wow!....Obama supporter, and big libers in hollywood, calling Obama "Orwellian".... Could the bloom on the rose be smelling like skunk even before the inauguration? Say it ain't so....:lamo:doh

Ok, so this Kuznick guy teaches history at American University, but remind me again why I should give a **** what Oliver Stone thinks about politics?

Oh come on....This is Obama's hollywood supporter network...He's got real problems when he starts losing his base...

He endorsed Ron Paul.......

Ha, yeah, I see what you mean. Well, I've been saying this for years about Obama. He's almost as bad a war criminal as Bush. Maybe Obama can turn things around in his second term now that he doesn't have to worry about getting re-elected. Or maybe civil liberties are just gone for good.

The problem is, though, that Republican politicians aren't interested in repealing the Orwellian state either.

Then you two agree don't you?

He endorsed Ron Paul.......

Say what you will for Ron Paul, at least he is a civil libertarian and is willing to end the Presidential drone strike kill list as well as our secret court system. And he's one of the few politicians willing to do so.

Oliver Stone isn't and never has been a "typical Hollywood liberal", whatever that means. He's basically a Kucinich Democrat.

I know im just saying when people think of Ron Paul they dont think liberal, they think libertarian.

What would the difference between that and a communist be?

Uh, there's a pretty massive difference, since I don't believe Kucinich favors the collectivization of the means of production.

Fringe liberal =/= Communist, as 'Communist' has a defined historical meaning.

Boiling the frog is not done all at once.

Making idiotic hyperbole is all too simple. All it takes is the jerk of a knee.

Yes, his problems were clearly on display last November. 4 million vote majority and 332 electoral votes.

People on the Far Left have always had a problem with Obama. They always will.

Well, then we'd better say a prayer for him...History shows that assassinations are carried out predominately by this group. And as much as I dislike Obama, and his lying ways, I don't wish that on anyone.

If Bush is a "war criminal" then so is every member of Congress who voted to authorize spending on these wars.

In this case, you're trying to fit a frog and a toad into the same pot.

There is no difference between a liberal and a libertarian.

Liberals aren't "liberal" they're authoritarian progressives. The word liberal is consistently misused. One may as well call a hat a bowl or a towel a napkin.

There's no relationship between 'classical liberalism' and 'libertarianism', and modern attempts to draw links between the two are basically ignorant of the history of classical liberalism.

'Liberalism' itself wasn't a concept in the same sense that modern political ideologies are. Nobody ever called themselves 'classical liberals', and those who today are most frequently associated with 'classical liberalism' were not remotely like modern libertarians.

Prime Minister Gladstone, who is undoubtedly the least controversial 'classical liberal' in the history of the Anglosphere, was basically hostile to the values libertarianism today promotes.

No, Bush is a war criminal because he authorized torture and extraordinary rendition to countries that torture.

You ever hear of the Magna Carta?

The notion that libertarians have some sort of common belief structure is wrong... Classical liberalism falls under libertarian, however so does anarchy (which is an impossible philosophy). Classical liberalism is just a specific idea where one would fall on the political spectrum.
