Claim seeks $100 million for child survivor of Connecticut school shooting

Claim seeks $100 million for child survivor of Connecticut school shooting - Yahoo! News

(Reuters) - A $100 million claim on behalf of a 6-year-old survivor is the first legal action to come out of the Connecticut school shooting that left 26 children and adults dead two weeks ago.

The unidentified client, referred to as Jill Doe, heard "cursing, screaming, and shooting" over the school intercom when the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, opened fire, according to the claim filed by New Haven-based attorney Irv Pinsky.

Pinsky's claim said that the state Board of Education, Department of Education and Education Commissioner had failed to take appropriate steps to protect children from "foreseeable harm."

It said they had failed to provide a "safe school setting" or design "an effective student safety emergency response plan and protocol."
So now we have a surviving child's parents looking to cash in on a 'forseeable harm' claim- nice.

Re: So The Newtown Money Grab Begins

This whole thing is bloody disgusting. I mean really. People DIED and some random bloke decides to sue the school because his kid heard shouting and curse words?

How about be happy that his kid is alive and not dead like the rest of those more unfortunate people. And then take steps to ensure that this will never happen, like have more, proper security put in place at schools. More guards. I mean by God, the US federal government spends a FORTUNE, an ever increasing FORTUNE on crappy public education, the least it could do is make sure that crappy public education is well guarded. I'm sure hiring a few security officers for every school will be a good investment of all that, otherwise, wasteful spending. And that will never happen until the people demand it of their elected official jokes.

I am not in favor of armed security officers, as in, armed with firearms. But with tasers, sure thing.

Tasers dont have enough range to be effective unless the attacker is willing to close range with you. I mentioned tasers and bean bag weapons, but the are largely ineffective much past 20 feet.

Im not sure you can make a case for forseeable or preventable for that matter. Ive got to say I dont think Id be looking for blame if my child were alive.

More proof that some humans, are living, breathing, pieces of ****.
Hopefully a judge will be wise enough to not allow such damages to be levied.

If he deserves $100 million just because his kid was there when it happened, I guess I deserve maybe $1 million from all the anguish of hearing anti-gun BS for the past month, right?

Add 200,000.00 Euro's there because I too empathized the anguish of bearing the forums being flooded with gun related issues and you'll have 1,200,000.00 Euro's. Who will represent our case?

It was not even actually seeing the shooting that caused this "anguish" but the hearing of its results over the school's loud speaker? Sue the school for its operation/activation of a warning over the PA system! Lawyers will do the strangest things, for 25% to 33% of the booty, of course.

    Scum, obviously.

Tasers are kind of like knives; one shouldn't bring them to a gun fight.

Dig a little deeper, it's probably more like 50%.
