At his age things can go bad fast with very little provocation. They used to call pneumonia "the old man's friend" because it was the way to a relatively comfortable death for the very old. Sounds like that might be what is going on.
“We do not believe any group of men adequate enough or wise enough to operate without scrutiny or without criticism. We know that the only way to avoid error is to detect it, that the only way to detect it is to be free to inquire. We know that in secrecy error undetected will flourish and subvert”. – J Robert Oppenheimer.
Elder Bush completes birthday parachute jump
Former President George H.W. Bush marked his 85th birthday on Friday the same way he did his 75th and 80th birthdays: He leaped from a plane and zoomed downward at more than 100 mph in freefall before parachuting safely to a spot near his oceanfront home.

Things don't seem to be looking good for former Pres. Bush.By RAMIT PLUSHNICK-MASTI Associated Press HOUSTON (AP) -- A spokesman says the fever that kept former President George H.W. Bush in a Houston hospital over Christmas has worsened, and doctors have put him on a liquids-only diet.
Jim McGrath had said earlier Wednesday that the fever had gone away. He later corrected himself and said the fever "elevated" in recent days. McGrath says doctors also put the 88-year-old former president on a liquid diet, though he could not say why.
McGrath says doctors have been treating the "stubborn" fever with Tylenol but still haven't nailed down a cause.

Hopefully they are just being overly cautious. He is the last world caliber President we have had in the country before the reality stars took over.
Although President Bush's condition remains "guarded," I remain optimistic.
