I think their 5th sun year reset. That happens once every 5000 years or something like that. I was hard to understand this elder on youtube. ;)
 
The Mayans never predicted that 12/21/12 was the end of the world. It was the termination of the long count from creation, August 11, 3114 BC. The long count is 5, 125 years. The interesting thing is that it happened on a winter solstice, which of course is the basis of Christmas. Those guys were pretty clever astronomically.
