An Eagle Appears To Steal A Toddler (Or Not)

That is pure fake.

Some vultures have been known to go after babies.

Its not a fake. Large birds of prey will go after prey that they know they cant carry off but will drop them
from heights that will injure them and then they'll finish them off.

Thank you. Beat me to it.

Yeah - it happens . . . it's happened before. It's not entirely common but not so rare as to be impossible.

Poor kid - thankfully he won't remember.

I think a nationwide ban on assault weapons owned by large birds of prey is in order.

Its time for a change

Talon control!!

I've read stories where power workers have found small deer in the powerlines to be the source of outages. They working theory is that eagles snatched them up and then dropped them since, you know, deer are not known for their pole climbing techniques.

I had a hawk land in my backyard, about 200 feet away from me. I felt like it could have picked me up.

Or eagles aren't into venison sushi.

Damn, holy crap, can you imagine?

Tim-

In 1973 the US Fish and Wildlife Service on the request and paid for by the American Sheep herders Association conducted a test in South Dakota and in Wyoming wherein a trained bald eagle was to catch and fly off with a newborn lamb. The objective was that the Shepards wanted to prove it could be done so they could get money from the government for thier losses.

It failed. MIserably. The eagle (a full grown male) could not take off after catching a mock lamb which the shepards had desgned and the USFWS had weighed to insure it was the same weight.

Several studies after that concluded that a bald or Golden Eagle is incapable of performing such an action.

FYI

See my post below. Not true as for reasons stated. Vultures are only a few pounds heavier. Problem is in order for birds to fly thier bones are HOLLOW

Untrue and not supported by evidence. An animal with hollow bones such as a bird cannot carry anything equally or greater than its own weight.

that one miscalculated

I was going to say the eagle saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and got inspired (much as boys who watch Rocky hum the theme and beat up imaginary foes in the ring afterwards).

If you watch this vid all the way through you'll see it flew just fine with the mountain goat.

Of course it did. Again how can something with hollow bones weighing about 4 or 5 pounds to this? Please provide a scientific explanation to justify your assertion.

BTW ALiens have captured my cat.

It looked to me like the eagle was more in a controlled fall than flight. He was descending pretty quickly.

Craze on youtube right now.

An Eagle Appears To Steal A Toddler (Or Not)

I've heard of this happening before and it generally tends to end the same. Too heavy to carry for a bird.

I've read stories about giant birds trying to take small children. There is a case from 1976 (I believe that is the correct year) of a child being taken several feet off the ground here in Illinois by a large bird.

I find this video fascinating because it proves - without question - that large birds will attack humans as prey.

It's kinda interesting to think what those big raptors could do 60 million years ago - they could take an adult 180 lb male.
