An Eagle Appears To Steal A Toddler (Or Not)

Ah, I thought this was only dealing with birds eating kids.

I believe someone said something about them being able to carry certain prey away. I have never heard of a vulture attacking a living child except maybe after some type of catastrophe or battle or something. But I think we got it clear now.

Golden eagles kill large prey like lambs but they don't fly off with them, they attack, kill and eat them in the same spot.

In this thread I got a nature video of an eagle flying off with a baby mountain goat. They can't take off flat ground with it but he took it off the mountain side and gained enough wind under his wings to glide it a very very long way. Also I linked to a site with Eagle faq's that explains weights they can carry under certain conditions like what that mountain goat went through.

It actually hit the news in SC, when I was younger...Some idiot left their 1 year old out while they were taking care of their other child...and vultures swooped in and fed. You gotta understand that vultures don't eat just what's dead, only what can;t help itself. And a 1 year old czan't help itself. It was a really awful story, and I still wanna beat those parents to death.

Ravens kill newborn calf's all the time, it is a very brutal death since they are not really equipped to kill. I would imagine a human baby left unattended might just meet the same gruesome fate.

I posted my last post about a second after yours I guess LOL.

I went to the Phoenix Renassiance festival and they had a birds of prey show and one was an African vulture of some kind. He had to have his hand well gloved when he fed him a chicken leg he stripped that thing down to the bone in about 4 seconds. He said because there is so many predators there the vultures have adapted to eating as fast as they can. He said that if he didn't have his glove on his finger would look like that chicken leg in less time.

OK, I didn't read the whole thread, I imagine on steep enough ground with a good updraft it is possible.

This hoax was debunked by ABC news. The bird was not a golden eagle, but another kind of eagle that is not native to North America.

It's impressive and scary. I'm just glad they don't get any bigger than they are now. We'd definitely be targets. Just as that teenager was in that other vid I posted in here that the hunting eagle attacked. Insane stuff.

late as usual dan. Debunking happened a few pages ago. Back to the bong with you.

OMG! That is horrible and sad.

A bit off subject but I shot a pheasant once on very steep ground and a huge hawk hit it as it fell and soared down the mountain with it, pissed me off but it was pretty cool.

It is, and to this day, I still want to beat those parents to death. I want them to feel the same pain, experience the same level of hopelessness that some 1 year old must have felt, as he was being eaten alive.

That is true, some things are better to try not to think about. Too sad and depressing.

My dad had told me once when he went to the Okefenokee swamp on a trip (grew up not too far from there). He said he saw an Osprey dive down and snatch up a fish and then an eagle came after the Osprey who did a roll and threw the fish up in the air and then bugged out leaving the fish for the eagle.

And that's my problem, it's always been. I just can't let **** go. I hold onto it for far too long. This story, my childhood, the latest shooting. ****, I STILL want to hunt down, and horribly kill every single person this kid ever cared about, from New Town. Parents, uncles, brothers, cousins, etc. I mean, I know that none of it matters...but I just...want to inlfact pain on those, the people that cause so much to the rest.

The more time you spend out in nature the better, lots of cool stuff happens out there.

I completely understand. Stop watching the news for a while and do busy work. That always helps me. :)

I had a really good friend several years ago who emailed me a pic that was the results of an obese jumper. I was absolutely furious and I let him have it. I know kids like watching that crap and skateboarders snapping their ankles and legs and all sorts of accidents and broken bones... I can't take it. I know that once you see it, you can't unsee it. I don't think hardening yourself to morbidity is cool or tough or anything of the sort. ****ing gross is ****ing gross. And liking ****ing gross things is ****ing gross.

Lets say you can fly. Now attach a 300 pound rock to your ankles and take off. Same result. End of story and probably end of you.

Ah yes. Monty Python physics.

I applaud the cameraman for lowering his camera and running over to help shortly after it became evident was was happening.

I would have to assume the child was lying prone and not moving around. I am a wildlife biologist by training I can tell you straight up no vulture would attack a person no matter the age if it was moving around. It is not in their hardwiring.

90% of a vulture diet is dead or dying when eaten. They are classified as scavangers. I have seen them eat living creatures (usually small)_ but they do not randomly go after larger living creatures UNLESS they are already hurt. They do not have the tools or intelligence to dothat.
