I had a hawk land in my backyard, about 200 feet away from me. I felt like it could have picked me up.

Or eagles aren't into venison sushi.

Re: An Eagle Appears To Steal A Toddler (Or Not)

In 1973 the US Fish and Wildlife Service on the request and paid for by the American Sheep herders Association conducted a test in South Dakota and in Wyoming wherein a trained bald eagle was to catch and fly off with a newborn lamb. The objective was that the Shepards wanted to prove it could be done so they could get money from the government for thier losses.

It failed. MIserably. The eagle (a full grown male) could not take off after catching a mock lamb which the shepards had desgned and the USFWS had weighed to insure it was the same weight.

Several studies after that concluded that a bald or Golden Eagle is incapable of performing such an action.

See my post below. Not true as for reasons stated. Vultures are only a few pounds heavier. Problem is in order for birds to fly thier bones are HOLLOW

Untrue and not supported by evidence. An animal with hollow bones such as a bird cannot carry anything equally or greater than its own weight.

    awesome, but fake.

Global Montreal | Fake video showing eagle snatching baby in Montreal goes viral

the only place i can tell it's CGI is when the bird is rounding the tree on approach toward the camera. the rest of it is nearly flawless.

I was going to say the eagle saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and got inspired (much as boys who watch Rocky hum the theme and beat up imaginary foes in the ring afterwards).
I've moved on to a better forum (scienceforums.net). Facts matter, and I don't have the time or energy for putting up with the pretense that they don't. PM me if you'd like me to get in touch with you when I'm done developing my own forum system, likely towards the end of 2013.
