From what I've been told, Adam was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed," Flashman told FoxNews.com. "Adam was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”
A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.

Well, we've been wondering what triggered this.... looks like we know, now.


I'd still be curious if there's a professional diagnosis on what kind of mental health problems this young man had, exactly. Lotta people questioning whether it was Aspergers.

This story sounds very credible. Fear, hate, revenge, and access to the weapons was all this guy needed.

If it was just fear, he would have likely committed suicide. If was just hate, he would have killed his mother. The revenge factor would explain the rest. This was a motivated, diabolical and premeditated murder.
 
I saw the headline this morning on Drudge and read the article, it seems very plausible. From what I read he targeted the school and the young kids because his mom had volunteered there and worked with these kids in particular. Sounds like the shooter was angry and jealous and had a screw loose, a really really bad combination.
 
Yep, and this is going to be one of the problems with the Gun - Mental Health discussion.... I know of at least a handful of gun owners who could probably use some form of counseling or low-level mental health assistance who will not even consider doing so because they believe it will put their gun licenses at risk. That is going to be a very large hurdle to overcome.
 
You keep any potential poisonous containers out of the hands of children and all medications have childproof lids.

You also keep guns in a safe locked location from extremely unstable mentally disturbed people.

It makes wonder about the mental stability of the mother.
 
The story is the most plausible one I've heard so far.

Whether or not this person had Asperger's, that had nothing to do with what he did. There's absolutely no evidence that one having Asperger's Syndrome increases one's propensity to violence. It's no different than saying, "I wonder if he had brown eyes." It is very unfortunate that this incident has put a focus on Asperger's in this way.

My best friend has a mentally disabled son who is 25 years old. She has begun to ask herself the big question: "What happens to him if something happens to me?" Thus, she has begun researching group homes for him. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if she doesn't do this carefully and methodically, she will have to fear for her life as that inevitable time approaches. He has no emotional maturity. He cannot control his anger. He is not mentally ill...he's just not firing on all cylinders.

It's very sad.

His mother never worked or volunteered at that school. We've been getting faulty information all along.

I'd be cautious not to swing too far in the other direction here. It's not direct, linear causation, but if this kid indeed had Asperger's, that certainly had SOMETHING to do with what in his mind led to this behavior. It can be a factor without being a direct cause.

Agreed - the apple usually falls close to the tree.
I have the same opinion of her myself.
I found it interesting that the father and older brother moved away after the divorce.
That told me that they wanted to get away from the mom and the shooter.
From what I read, she was very, very rigid as a person, and probably so with her son.
I guess that they suffered from the same mental demons.
 
In other words, this had absolutely nothing to do with "violence in the media" or "a lack of prayer in schools". Good to know.
 
this is the 8th excuse I have seen about this person. How many more I wonder. Fox holds the record at 4 in one day.

From what I understand, he attended all of the years there.
Must have been familiarity, anger, memories, who knows what - but he knew the layout of the school.
 
I am not a shrink but this young man sounds like he was borderline, personality disordered and psychotic and none of the autism spectrum disorders had ANYTHING to do with it.

My guess is that the Asperger's and the physiological issue of not being able to feel pain would have been contributors, particularly the Asperger's, to poor impulse control.

Asperger's has nothing to do with "not being able to feel pain". Where do you people get this stuff?

This is complete garbage. People love an explanation and here it is, yay! Now we can sleep soundly knowing that we have the easy answers. We can even prevent the next shooting!

GARBAGE. That's what it is. This is pure conjecture. Any or every fact in this article may be correct but there is no proof of what went on in this guy's head and there is nothing anywhere that explains why a human being would kill 20 completely innocent children. Every time a tragedy happens, we look for an answer because it excuses us - it tells us there is no underlying societal problem that is in desperate need of fixing.

Anybody who wants is free to take the easy answers. I'll take the truth.

First, I'm not "you people." Second, and because you apparently missed the "and," I did separate one independent idea from the other. The "and" meant "in addition to Asperger's." Can I clear up anything else for you?

Obviously, you do not read very well at all.
Your preconceived solution has blinded you from looking at all of the components of the situation.
You would do yourself well to relax and use common sense.
