I prep but not for 12/21 or for space aliens or zombies. I prep because events like hurricane sandy happen, earthquakes, and sadly even riots. No fiat paper money like ours has lasted for ever, and if ours collapses because of continued over spending I would like to be prepared. It's just a guess but I'd say 80/90% of serious preppers take fire arm ownership and training seriously. My understanding is no range in the area of her home has ever seen her?

I'm a prepper as well, and also a few of my close friends. I have enough to survive on for my family of 6 for 2 years if needed, including fresh water. Anyone wanting to get into it should watch "doomsday preppers" on cable. Good show for what to do and what not to do in case of emergency. :)

Tim-

OP report is based on a single interview of a single family member. Going off half-cocked (no pun intended) is what got brother Ryan Lanza fingered for the shooting before the truth came out.

I think people should in all cases be a bit more calm and less credulous when a news source puts out info. I think that there is a LOT going on underneath the surface that will eventually shed light on why this young man did such a horrifying thing.

I saw that, but the title of the article and the reporting itself was nothing less than sensational. Every other piece about her, every other comment about her, there is no mention of this, but only praise for her and her sunny attitude and giving nature.

The Psy-Ops War on Preppers lanzacrazy

Not sure it's just one media source.

I didn't say it was just one media source. I was referring solely to the OP article cited, which cites a single interview with a family member, with no corroboration.

ADDED: A quick search of other news articles alleging that she was a prepper are all referring ONLY to a single interview with Marsh Lanza, the woman's sister-in-law.

Multiple news sources repeating the words of one individual is NOT corroboration. Once additional individuals confirm the information of Marsh Lanza, then we can reasonably discuss what effect being a prepper may have had on her son.

I think "interview with a family member" to be the functional statement in your post.

Even worse...and End Timers. Wing nut bat crazy...her son didn't stand a chance.
Nice judgment based on speculation f what may or may not be a relevant factor. Her son didnt stand a chance...why exactly? She was by all accounts a loving and caring mother that retired early to stay home and home school her autistic child. Father long gone. Mother took care of, nurtured, and provided for her child. And because she may or may not have prepared to some level her child didnt stand a chance? Project much???

There has been so much contradictory reporting about this event, the shooter and the family that I take all of it with a grain of salt.

The mother: A prepper gun nut. A normal lady like the rest of the neighbors. A teacher at the school. Maybe a substitute teacher at the school. Not a teacher at the school.

The shooter: A shy loner. A part of the tech club. A goth. Wears khaki's and a pocket protector.

The event: Do I really need to list all the stuff that came out during the course of last Friday?

Y'all will excuse me, I'm sure, if I wait till an official police report is revealed.

"corroboration" should have been.

Why? These were statements from a family member who knew a lot more about what was going on then most. If another person corroborated you would just tell people to ignore it because there are not 3.

In a court of law these statements from one single family member would be allowed into evidence.

Go ahead. But don't criticize others who wish to discuss the information as it comes out.

Read the article. It's the typical muckrake. That family member did not say what they twisted her as saying. She just [reportedly] said she was a prepper and that she was prepared for economic collapse. No mention of December 21st. The same family member has been telling all the other reporters that Nancy was a cheerful, loving asset to the community.

The simple phrase out there "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" has never been more true. A psychopath will use whatever means is available to kill. That could be as simple as firework powered scraped into a pipe bomb.

The whole "ban guns" argument is a faulty one because it only addresses a tool, not the problem.

And it doesn't seem we'll ever be able to solve the problem. The world hasn't been able to eliminate murder...

But a teacher or three or more with a firearm may have been able to reduce the carnage.

How do you know that? What's your source?

So what? An attorney would rightly point out if there was no corroboration for the statement. Easier to make a jury believe a story if more than one person is saying something.

I have nothing invested in proving or disproving Lanza being a prepper. It doesn't really matter to me. It does matter to me that people are trying to create a narrative before getting the story right. It should matter to you too.

In an interview the killer's aunt said Nancy Lanza was 'self-reliant' and indicated she was a 'prepper', or a person who prepares for Doomsday by learning essential survival skills - like how to shoot a gun.

Speaking from her home near Chicago, Marsha Lanza, 57, said: 'She was stockpiling food. We talked about prepping a lot. She was getting ready for the economic collapse.

'I think she had the guns for self-defense because she lived alone.'

The Mayan Apocalypse, which the ancient Mayan people thought would mark the end of the world, will supposedly take place on December 21, although it is not clear if Adam thought that was the case.

What was twisted? The Dec 21st thingy comes up because the question could be asked "why now and not in a month or 6 months".

That's sounds logical. People really do need to step off of the ledge and come back down here to earth.

Preppers circle the wagons...

The woman's sister, who talked with her "a lot" about stockpiling food and "prepping" is now a dubious witness.
