Oh Jeez........ Not sure whether or not its a true threat, someone playing a prank, or someone being overly paranoid about any and everything on the first day back at school.

Connecticut school district in lockdown following report of suspicious person in area | Fox News

Source said:
DEVELOPING: Schools in Ridgefield, Conn., are on lockdown following reports of a "suspicious person" possibly armed with a rifle.
Ridgefield is approximately 19 miles from Newtown, where 20 children and six adults were killed Friday when a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook elementary school.
Ridgefield Superintendent Deborah Low released a statement Monday saying that schools in the district "have been put into lockdown."

Goddamn it, man. What the hell?

Re: Connecticut school district in lockdown following report of suspicious person in

I'd say likely it's hyper paranoia.

I've seen this sort of phenomenon plenty of times.

A tight knit HOA ruled community has a break-in at one of the houses.......

Give it a few days for word to spread around and every dog walker and newspaper delivery man is getting a suspicious person call to 911.

Why on earth would you say that? And an aside, EVERY SCHOOL SHOULD BE ON LOCK DOWN ALL THE TIME.

Yes... of course...... when THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!111!!!!!!! are involved, why on earth be realistic............

Oh, stop. You'da been cryin' like a baby had you walked into that school to investigate what happened. What is unrealistic about taking threats seriously? What is unrealistic about locking down our schools? That's far more likely to buy time than anything else we might do.

Because right after a tragedy or emotionally damaging event, people tend to be hypersensitive to the effect for awhile.

Do you realize that "lockdown" means children cannot leave the classroom AT ALL? No walking the halls, no recess, no changing classes...and lord help 'em if they don't have restrooms in their classroom.

Schools should be secured at all times. I would support buzz-in access for visitors, for example. But you have to realize that "lockdown" isn't just secured outer doors; it means the entire school is held in place where ever they were when the lockdown order was issued. Are you comfortable with your child being locked inside a classroom for 7 hours on any normal day?

I didn't say take precautions......

There is a difference between believing something is just overt paranoia and STILL taking precautions...... and believing something is paranoia and ignoring it.

And you are right...... had I responded to that killing I would have been balling my eyes out....

I could barely hold back my tears when I had to respond to a call to assist medic with a 1 year old who managed to burn herself with boiling water from the stove at 3am because her parents were too busy playing halo at that time to make sure she didn't climb up and pull the pot down on herself. My son was 1 years old at the time and hearing her screams and looking at her I wouldn't help but tear up.

There is good reason for that, Ikari. Copycats.

A man claiming to have attended a showing of the new Batman film with a loaded gun has been caught by Maine cops. Police found handguns, boxes of ammunition and an illegal automatic weapon in his possession.
Police pulled Timothy Courtois over after he was spotted speeding along a Maine turnpike at 112mph, flashing his hazard lights. Upon searching Courtois’ vehicle, police found an AK-47 assault rifle, four handguns and several boxes of ammunition. Police also found a selection of newspaper clippings pertaining to the Aurora, Colorado, cinema shooting on Thursday in which 12 people were killed.

Exactly one week after a gunman opened fire in a Colorado movie theatre, killing 12 people and wounding more than 50 others, police in Maryland say they may have foiled a similar plot. Cops arrested Neil Edwin Prescott, who allegedly told his employer he was "a joker" who would "blow everybody up" and that he would like to see the supervisor's brain splattered on the sidewalk, ABC News reports.

Several armed suspects have been arrested for attempts to recreate the Connecticut elementary school shooting massacre, which killed at least 27 people, including 20 children. In Indiana, a man identified as Von Meyer, 60, was arrested on Sunday after threatening to light his wife on fire and kill as many people as possible at Jane Ball Elementary School. Police discovered 47 guns and ammunition in his home, worth a total of over $100,000.

The Werther Effect

The copycat shooting phenomena, in which an attacker is inspired by a gun massacre and tries to re-create it, is not new. The US has seen numerous copycat shooting, even giving the syndrome a name – the 'Werther Effect.' Adolescents are said to be the most susceptible to it.

Chicago school classrooms are locked down every day. When class begins, the door is locked from the inside. This isn't new, at least here in the Chicago area. Most suburban schools have lock-down for the building; however, it is virtually ignored as every time someone requests entrance, they are buzzed in without a second thought.

Re: Connecticut school district in lockdown following report of suspicious person in

NPR reported this morning that the Indiana threat actually happened before the Connecticut shootings, so it can't be labeled as copycat.

Then the exterior measures are a failure, and children are locked up like prisoners as a result.

I'm not okay with my children being locked in a room all day "for their safety". Keep the perimeter well monitored and give the kids the freedom to move though the school. It's ridiculous that we'd rather just lock everybody down than focus on the least restrictive safety measures.

Hell, the violent offender juvenile center in Dallas, which houses over 5,000 violent youth offenders (most of them held for serious assault and battery, rape, or murder) provides the prisoners with more freedom to move than you're schools do. And the visitors and staff throughout the building are still safe because of extensive security protocol, check points, and limited-access to the prison area. If we can give prisoners the freedom to move, why the hell are we locking innocent school children in 15 x 15 rooms??

Sure it can.....

This has been a year full of ignorant shootings.

What is funny is that after the Colorado shooting and the gun control debates started up a little then, I called it.

I called that there would be more and more shootings.

Perchance, I'm just saying that the heightened call ins are likely due to oversensitivity to the problem. In time, the call ins are likely to recede to nominal levels.

You reminded me with that "lockdown" and this Connecticut shootings of this thread of Victoria the heroic teacher. She was an Albanian American teacher whom locked down the kids to the closets or shelves I am told. When Lenzo came and asked for the children she said to him that she sent them at the gym. He killed her right then and left. The children open up the closets to see her dying upon time when she said "I love you all!"

Re: Connecticut school district in lockdown following report of suspicious person in

They had a buzz in system at Sandyhook, he was denied entrance...he shot his way through the door.

It's a .223 round. Your standard door, or BRICK WALL, for that matter, is not really gonna hold up to much abuse from that.

More security at the school in terms of facilities isn't really gonna help matters.

What we need, is a better understanding of the minds behind the shooting. So far, we got one alive, but near as I can tell, there are no statements forthcoming from the Aurora dude.

A brick wall?

Dude you make this round out to be a freaking tank cannon.

A cheap CINDER BLOCK wall loosely stacked.... maybe.

A properly constructed brick wall isn't going to be shot away by a .223 rifle with any level of ease.

Cinder blocks were exactly what I was thinking of. 10-15 shots will have quite the effect on a cinder block wall. Doubt me? YouTube it.

I don't doubt you.... Thats why I mentioned it myself. I happen to subscribe to old Hickok_45.

Good videos in his collection.
