26 reported killed in Newtown [W:72/89]

No. These mass shootings never happen at guns shows where all the "gun nuts" hang out. They only happen in "gun free" zones like schools and shopping malls.

That doesn't mean gun shows are a safe place to be. That means the crazies are sane enough to realize the gun nuts will put a zillion holes in them if they even try.....lol. Maybe we should start having gun shows in our schools to keep our kids safe. SOmehow, that seems to be an odd solution.

Law preventing people from purchasing thousands of rounds of amo would have stopped the Aurora shooter. On another note, I realize we can't stop all gun violence, but that is no reason to stop trying. We can and do stop some terrorist plots, so why can't we stop some gun violence? We don't have to give up our freedoms to do this. There are reasonable common sense ways to approach this issue. In many parts of Europe, there are some violent crimes that are so rare it's worth taking notice of how those contries opporate. Lets take sex crimes for one example. Europe has virtually no sex crimes. Maybe it's time to learn why and apply what they are doing. Gun violence is hardly heard of in Canada and many parts of Europe. We can learn from these countries. Lets face it, our gun laws have become more laxed over the last few decades, and it's the gun lobbiests that have made that happen. We can't continue to let the NRP dictate our gun control laws.
laws would have stopped the aurora shooter? The only law that would have stopped the aurora shooter would have been the elimination of the law that made the theater a gun free zone. The killer in this latest tragedy apparently killed his own mother and then himself. tell me what law's proposed punishment would have deterred a guy who had already decided to die?

You can talk about it after the kids are buried, and the parents have had a chance to grieve. It is ghoulish to bring this up, even while the victims are still warm. Many gun control advocates raised holy hell when Charlton Heston held an NRA rally in Flint Michigan the day after a child was shot to death in her school. Why would this be any different? It isn't. I agreed with the gun control people that Heston was being a jerk, and I am pro gun. But right now I believe that some of the gun control people are the ones being jerks.

Please, just shut up. Talk to me in a week about it, and I will be happy to engage you in a fair debate. But for now, please shut up. I ask this respectfully, from the bottom of my heart.

I won't shut up, just ignore me. I am angry that young children are now dead because we never talk about this. This is the first time I have brought up gun control in any forum, but it effected me in such a way that I felt it's now way past time to bring up the subject and I feel we need to talk about it until we are blue in the face and laws are in place to keep our children safe from gun violence. IN a week from now, people will move on and not talk about it or do anything to prevent the next one.

bad things happen sometimes and no matter what we want, there is no solution.

this carnage points to the importance of death penalty..

26 reported killed in Newtown, Conn., school shooting

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A lone gunman killed 26 people at an elementary school here, including 18 children, in a terrifying early Friday morning shooting spree.

The Associated Press and local media reported the shooter, a 24-year-old male identified by CNN as Ryan Lanza, was also dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. A second person was in custody and undergoing questioning. At least three weapons were recovered at the scene, including a .223-caliber assault rifle and two semi-automatic handguns.

Mayor Mark Boughton said several victims had been taken to local hospitals.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were escorted from the school by teachers. Some witnesses reported of up to 100 shots. There were unconfirmed reports that the assailant, dressed in military style assault gear, shot most of the victims in a kindergarten classroom.

I am devestated by this horrific act of this young man. There are no words to explain it. I was even touched by Obama and his statement. I feel so bad for the parents of these yong children. God bless these children and may they rest in peace.

Just like a car they don't kill people....Do you want to get rid of all cars....Guns don't kill.......people do it.

No, people talk about how liberals want to ban guns and conservatives want to arm everyone. No one really talks about solutions to our problems. We need to have a real conversation about how to solve the problem of gun violence in this country. The first step is admitting we have one, the second step is talking about solutions and then we should get some laws in place that solve the problems. We have been dancing around the subject for decades.

I know plenty of Lbs who own guns.

I think everybody is angry over the loss of life especially when it comes to little kids. But I don't think it means people shouldn't talk about it.

This type of thing makes me head in the opposite direction as you though. I think most people are honest and decent people, if we arm most people we'd be arming a lot of honest and decent people (basic line of logic). I grew up in a family of hunters, and just gun owners. I didn't see a gun until I was old enough to know what it was and I never saw one unless there was an adult right there with it, handling it. If our honest and decent people learn how to properly handle a gun and know how to safely keep them away from kids than they have something they can use to protect themselves and their families. Maybe taking guns away from the people or just more heavily controlling them when it comes to those honest and decent people is a part of the problem. I mean if the right people were armed and in the position to help, how far could that one wrong person really have gotten?

I don't know though :thinking

You're an example of why they didn't used to let women vote. A government can't make decisions on emotion.

Instead of claiming the shooter was evil, lets take a look at the shooters mental state. Perhaps if we had already had health care implemented, the sick individual who took these inocent lives would have gotten the mental health care he obviously needed and that would have prevented such a horrible situation. We have to address these problems. We can't just claim people like the shooter are evil and we can't do anything to prevent this sort of thing. These things will continue to happen over and over agian until we address the problems and come up with common sense solutions.
The GOP are against health care for all and gun control. I would like to know why.

I do not support taking guns away or banning guns. I would support banning internet sales of guns. I would support requiring someone to either be a military veteran, active duty, LE or have to take a class to be able to buy some of the assault weapon guns (not rifles commonly used in hunting that have been tried to be shoe-horned in as assault weapons though). I cannot think of a gun dealer I have ever met who would sell to somebody who gave them the creeps and I trust that instinct.

What does your sexist views have to do with any of this?

Moderator's Warning:
Stick to the topic. Cease with the personal attacks, baiting and flaming. Discussions such as "you're a sexist" and the like do not belong here.

I would just like to point out that there's a difference between saying "women shouldn't be allowed to vote" and what I said.

A.) Women didn't used to be allowed to vote. That's not an opinion, that's an historical fact.

B.) Governments can't make decisions on emotion. That's an opinion. A pretty good one, though. Bipartisan, too. Obama seems to endorse this point of view when he says now is not the time to discuss gun control.

C.) The historical case for denying women the vote was that they would make emotional decisions. Again, this isn't my opinion, this is history.

So, when I say "you're an example of why they didn't used to let women vote," I'm not passing judgement either way. Therefore I'm not being sexist at all. I'm putting her actions in to an accurate historical context.

Yeah... pretty much explains itself.

Yeah, because men make every decision in the calmest manner possible. I would much rather a woman make a decision than a narrow minded caveman........

OK, so you want to go there, in spite of the fact that people are grieving right now? OK, I'll make this very quick and painless for you. Want to know why they don't have school shootings in Israel? Here's a hint:

Frankly you're making a leap. And Israelis have a lot to worry about. Not sure we want be them.

Not a leap at all. Children in Israel ARE safe, despite the fact that they have a lot to worry about. I will leave it at that. My apologies for bringing this up. This is not something I wanted to do, but I strongly felt that the person who was pushing this politically deserved a comeuppance. I will shut the **** up now, and say a prayer for the victims.

I love who the only people whining about what I wrote are other men.

Because we are doing what real men do and defending women instead of degrading and attacking them like you. Maybe you should take notes bro. Now, I will observe the mod warning from earlier and return this thread to its original topic.

Two things: no they really are not. They all kinds of dangers there. Second, they have a different culture and different factors than we have.

And, yes, I respect why you brought it up and that we can have this discussion later.

If you actually wanted a solution, than this would be the only solution that would actually work...

I think if you have to try to prove to me that you're a "real man," we can all figure out what that means. Either way, try reading what I actually wrote, because I don't think it is what you think it is.

I'm not sure it or anything else would. Beware simple answers.
