Susan Rice Withdraws as Sec of State Candidate

Susan Rice withdraws from consideration as secretary of state - CNN.com

Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.

In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly -- to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."

Obama acknowledged her letter in a statement that described her as "an extraordinarily capable, patriotic, and passionate public servant."

    As expected....

There was no way she would have been confirmed.

I don't know about that. Deems have the votes to confirm anyone they want. It seems to me the administration didn't want to face the scrutiny that a nomination would bring

Yeah, because the GOP is going to stop any scrutiny just because Rice withdrew from Sec of State.

Language is political. Each of us talks, listens, and thinks in his/her own special language that has been shaped by our culture, experiences, profession, personality, mores and attitudes. The chances of us meeting someone else who talks the exact same language is pretty remote.

If he were smart he'd nominate a moderate republican, but since he is a democrat, I suspect he will first look for the most minority candidate he can find with a heart-beat. I think it would be a mistake to take Kerry out of the Senate politically for the WH (even though I HATE the guy)

No, I don't expect the GOP to stop talking about it, but a confirmation hearing would have brought greater attention to it. Apparently something the Obama administration doesn't want

time to bring Colin Powell back to his old job

that appointment would help our nation and would also be a wise political move by Obama
