There's some hidden figures taking action in Michigan and this lame duck legislature and pawn of a governor are their tools. This organized and was rammed through far too quick to be otherwise.
I heard that the gov warned union leaders that if they attempted to push through the (failed) referendum on placing union rights in the constution, he would pursue a right to work law. So, it doesn't seem that this should be too big a surprise to them.

That is the Koch brothers' daddy. A conspiracy minded view of this would be to see that the GOP is now being morphed by the Koch brothers into the John Birch society.

I don't understand why Union folk are so angry about this. Does "Right to Work" mean it's illegal to start or invite in a union? Or does it simply mean that now folks can choose to join or NOT join unions?

Michigan, considered a cradle of unionization, has struggled economically in epic, humiliating ways for decades now. Not to say I'm implying direct cause and effect, but the correlation is somewhat undeniable. So, "pay the price?" What has the state got to lose anymore, for chrisake?
Alot of Republicans in elected office is what they will be giving up. This is not going to stand for long. It will go the way of DOMA, Don't ask , don't tell, laws restricting womens rights and any other teaparty B.S. we got because the young people didn't vote in 2010. Laws can be overturned as easily as they are passed.

Half of Michigan left. Detroit is Beirut. Unions have destroyed this state beyond recognition.

And you want to make it worse?

So why all of this negativity?

Honestly, was michigan doing all that well under the current climate? If something isn't working, shouldn't you change it?

I love how these alleged "liberal" progressives back the notion that people shouldn't have a choice to join a labor union or not.

    They're a bunch of hypocrites.

In their silly minds a woman should be allowed to have the choice to kill her fetus but a worker SHOULDN'T have the choice to join a union or not.

As usual progressives are the gift that keeps on giving. I could write a book about progressive hypocrisy - especially on the issue of labor and unions.

This book by Jonah Goldberg addresses this issue..
