Re: House votes: Michigan is going to become a 'right-to-work' state for all

I understand what unions are supposed to do for their workers. All of the unions I have worked for have been awful. The union leaders were "in bed" with the company and got a lot of extra perks (free cars, extra paid-for vacations, etc.) to keep union members mouths shut. The union leaders acted like they had the union members best interests, but that wasn't the case. If the union agreed to strike, eventually the union leaders would bend when they got some extra perks thrown at them and sacrificed union members pay and/or benefits in the process.

On the surface, this legislation may look like it's the end of the world, but in the long run, union members are going to be glad when they wake up and realize how bad they have been getting screwed by their elected leaders.
Scientific fact: If you took all of the veins from your body and laid them end to end, you would die.

So if they opened the bill for debate violence would have happened? Get real. People are acting out BECAUSE the bill was closed to debate and the doors were locked.

You are for the politics of this so you'll come up with any reason to excuse the ****ty method that was used to pass it. I'll remember that should liberals lock the doors and pass something you disagree with without any debate. To maintain your integrity I should expect your silence on the manner of which it is passed but I more realistically expect you venting your outrage.

Ok...maybe you should write it down so as to not forget...

    ps...I NEVER vent outrage...

    Ok... then to clarify...

Do you or do you not agree with passing bills in such a manner where you close debate, lock the doors and push it through as fast as possible?

I agree with it...considering the most recent state history, prop 2, and all. Sometimes it's best to kick the kids out of the room so the adults can get the work done. Instead of dragging this out to reach the same end it just got expidited...kinda like ripping the bandaid off. While not exact the PPACA was passed in a similar way. Now you know how it feels...but I doubt this will have the same detrimental effect.

So that's your vision of how you like representative democracy to work? Interesting.

There's some hidden figures taking action in Michigan and this lame duck legislature and pawn of a governor are their tools. This organized and was rammed through far too quick to be otherwise.

Sounds like you folks should have elected better leaders. I can't speak for your experience, but the Union I'm a member of requires all officers to be re-elected every two years to ensure they are still looking out for the best interest of the members. Last election we replaced about 80% of the officers because we didn't believe they were doing their job correctly.
