I'm an American, and I'm just glad that the report wasn't worse. I'm also concerned that hyperpartisans on both sides are going to really mess things up with their game of chicken. save your venom for the hacks; I'm not interested.[/I

I beg to differ. You posted that knowing ( I hope ) that it wasn't adjusted and didn't factor in labor rates.

I tell you a secret. Its NOT going to get better, its going to get far worse because Obama's incompetence is brewing a perfect storm.

Did you vote for him ?

I never mentioned the unemployment rate. I mentioned the number of jobs created. Sandy destroyed a great number of businesses, which means job loses.

Government has to fund it's expanding labor force

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news...lar-it-spends/

The federal government borrowed 46 cents of every dollar it has spent so far in fiscal year 2013, which began Oct. 1, according to the latest data the Congressional Budget Office released Friday.

The government notched a $172 billion deficit in November, and is already nearly $300 billion in the hole through the first two months of fiscal year 2013, underscoring just how deep the government’s budget problems are as lawmakers try to negotiate a year-end deal to avoid a budgetary “fiscal cliff.”

and yet, if it had been really bad news, my guess is that it would have been touted as gospel by the same posters who are raging against it now.

it could have been worse. i posted it to remind people how delicate our recovery is right now, and to illustrate why we don't want to go over the cliff.

The boomer generation will become a significant factor (estimated to be 26% of the population at peak retirement in 2030) - but it hasn't been yet. As previously stated, the 65+ group currenty makes up a a smaller proportion of people who choose not to work than it has since 1988.

    Bureau of Labor Statistics Data
And far worse than the 1,114,000 jobs created in a single month just following a recession 29 years ago.

The numbers state otherwise. I agree that it shouldnt be a comfortabel way of life. It should provide enough to keep one from starving to death, but no more. It should pay for cigarettes or lottery tickets, or big screen tv's, yet it does.

29 years ago the US. manufactured most of the world's finished goods which is no longer the case. Also, automation hass taken over jobs that employed workers.

    Don't know. Do you?

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.
