Re: DeMint will leave Senate to head Heritage Foundation

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Washington Post put out a piece on this and quoted Tevi Troy from National Affairs on the change in certain think tanks over the years. Troy was critical of the Heritage Foundation as well as the Center for American Progress as being too explicitly arms of each respective political party, in comparison with dispositionally political think tanks such as Brookings or AEI.

Washington think tanks have undergone a transformation. Today, while most think tanks continue to serve as homes for some academic-style scholarship regarding public policy, many have also come to play more active (if informal) roles in politics. Some serve as governments-in-waiting for the party out of power, providing professional perches for former officials who hope to be back in office when their party next takes control of the White House or Congress. Some serve as training grounds for young activists. Some serve as unofficial public-relations and rapid-response teams for one of the political parties — providing instant critiques of the opposition’s ideas and public arguments in defense of favored policies.

Nah.....we need him Right now as the Thorn Twisting in Obama and Rice's Side. Which he can keep the pressure on Collins to stand against any Rice nomination for SOS. With Ayotte that's another woman against Rice. Plus Collins even mentioned she would have to go thru Rice's Screw Up with Darfur and Somalia.

After Rice has no Chance then he can hit pasture!

    Think Progress
    1: Rep. Tim Scott
    2: Governor Nikki Haley
3: Former Attorney General Henry McMaster
    4: State Sen. Tom Davis
    5: Rep. Joe Wilson

    The Blaze
    1: Rep. Tim Scott
    2: Governor Nikki Haley
    3: Rep. Mick Mulvaney
4: Former South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster

I find it interesting that the two sites have the same two people in first and second place along with the former state AG in 3rd with Think Progress and 4th on the Blaze

Re: DeMint will leave Senate to head Heritage Foundation

This is a shifting from the election. Some really really rich people are extremely pissed as they ought to be. They spent insane money and were lied to from beginning to end right up to when they lost all that invested money... as they were being told that all the polls were wrong except the ones showing Romney winning. This wasn't a mistake... people were lied to and they are powerful and awfully angry.

DeMint isn't getting hurt by this fallout though, he is just taking a financial advantage from the effects of the fallout. Karl Rove is benched by Fox and Dick Armey is marched out off his role at FreedomWorks.

How does this all tie together? FreedomWorks and DeMint's new position at Heritage Foundation... they are all just bull**** fronts for the Koch Brother's power grab into politics.

    Heritage Foundation:
Heritage Foundation is also a part of the Koch Foundation Associate Program.

    Freedom Works:
FreedomWorks originated from a campaign called Citizens for a Sound Economy, which split in two in 2004. CSE was set up by businessman David Koch (Koch Industries).

The K brothers are pissed and want some retribution for their investment losses while being lied to. DeMint is merely stepping out of office to take some Koch money. It's becoming Republican's favorite pasttime anymore. Almost any conservative organization you hear of will inevitably lead back to the Koch Brothers... or Rupert Murdoch. It is a very tiny minority that is pressing a well funded message.

    FreedomWorks
    Heritage Foundation
    Cato Institute
Americans for Prosperity (as has been noted before as the "tea party's wallet")

...all rooted with the Koch brothers. (although I will admit that the cato institute is actually fighting it. Good on them).

So how about a balanced budget - I guess you don't think we should have a balanced budget?

Please tell us what workable plan Sen DeMint has to do that simple phrase?

I personally don't see a Senator leaving Congress for money, DeMint was a leader in the Senate and that is POWER. I forget who said every Senator brushes his teeth in the morning convinced he sees the next President staring back in the mirror. Money has a way of warping a man's world view and stroking his ego but power is the true addictive drug.

Demint will lead the government in waiting but I don't think his brand of governance will be back in vogue soon, and that will be his ego's kidney stone....

    likely for money
understand his net worth when he ran was $65,000
this new position will allow him to run with the big dogs

could be to avoid ethics inquiries. no, i don't know of any that are pending, or even with basis. but speculating because we seldom know of the quiet investigation until after it has concluded

and nikki should take a page out of cheney's playbook and select herself as interim senator

but good riddance to trash taking itself out
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it
