Costas gun control commentary gets notice - Yahoo! News

So horror of horros some famous sports guy uses a gun and now all of a sudden people start bitching again. There argument is the same old one as always. if there was no gun the stupid football player and his girlfriend would still be alive. Perhaps that is true, but that is not our world. We hear these arguments all the time for banning things. if there were no drugs then no one would abuse them. The problem with most of these arguments, if not all of them, is simply it is impossible. There will be guns in our society tomorrow. banning them will not stop them from being there.

The way I see it is there is no solution to people doing crazy **** in the world. You can ban this, or limit that, but still people are going to do crazy destructive things. I am not saying we just stop dealing with it, but there are going to be those things you simply cannot prevent. I would also like to note they are rare. Across the US millions of people owned guns the day this wackydoodle footbal dumbass went off and killed his girlfriend and himself. Did we hear anything about those guns that sat idle in responsible hands? Did we hear the millions of stories about the gun owners that simply let their aggravation go and didn't pick up their guns and shoot people? No, we do not hear about all those people because then we might realize it is not guns that kill people, it is people who kill other people.

I am all for keeping the crazies from owning guns, and people who are criminals who made their mistakes and have shown themselves to be prone to doing the wrong thing from owning guns. i am for background checks and waiting periods. I am for gun training for gun owners, and regulations about keeping a gun safely where anyone else would have a problem getting to it if they wanted to. Those are all great and i am with people on those ideas. However, banning guns simply does not solve the problem of people doing violent things. I have seen some fights in my life, and none of them included gun or even weapons. The closest i ever saw was a DJ getting hit with a beer bottle because some drunk didn't like the fact it was the last song and the bar was closing. violence happens for dumb reasons, and banning things won't make violent people stop being violent.

It may be true that without guns this footbal player and hid girlfriend may still be alive, or it may be true they would both still be dead because he choked her or bounced her head off the pavement and then decided to kill himslef another way. The fact is the end result of banning gubns is supposed to be to stop violence, and it doesn't accomplish that goal at all. It won't even get rid of guns.

If that guys girlfriend wouldn't have gone to the rap concert and stay out late, he wouldn't have gotten angry and killed her. If we would have ban rap concerts she wouldn't have died. If you impose curfew on women and had curfew been a law, she wouldn't have died. In all honesty, guns kill less people than rap does and since most crimes happen at night, it stands to reason that banning rap and curfew would save a lot of lives. the reason these things aren't done is because they are civil liberties and a free country usually permits as many of those as possible.

This Costas guy is retarded and an anti-2nd amendment personality.

If most crimes happen at night, we should ban darkness.

Well I'm sure if Belcher didn't have a gun he would have used any method to do what he did.

I love how these anti-gun nuts act like violence and murder started happening with the conception of the gun, hence to stop murder and violence we need to ban guns.

Determined people will kill and they don't need a gun to do it....

The problem isn't with the gun it's with human nature. People kill people and a gun is just a tool.... People kill people with knives should we ban knives?

Simple question:

On what basis should Belcher have been denied a gun?

Costas is a profoundly stupid man, I can't stand him in any setting, especially SNF..

Just because you disagree with him doesn't mean that he isn't one of the best journalist of our day.

Andy Levy put it best in saying "Bob Costas, who’s gotten rich thanks in part to a sport that destroys men’s bodies and brains, gives us a little civics lecture." His rant was horribly unprofessional but, if Costas is so concerned with this nation's well being, perhaps he should start advocating against the dangerous sports he reports on. That should go over real well.

just because you disagree with him doesn't mean that he isn't one of the best journalist of our day.

thats exactly what it means!

Journalists? Tell me What has Costas done in the way of Journalism, outside sports?

Just as some people believe that they are Napoleon, or teapots, vast numbers of otherwise quite normal Americans believe they are Nineteenth Century cowboys. May I say, on behalf of a very large part of the world, that much as we respect and like you, on this subject you have got to be the biggest bores on earth.

Journalist?. He's a commentator, and always has been ever since I can remember? He's as phoney as they come, YS.

In my opinion, he ruined his "best in his field" by going outside his field, to comment on social issues, when he should of just stuck to football.

And he sucks at that AND Olympics coverage. I can't stand his commentary on ANTHING. :)

Yes, I don't like him, but what's to like, exactly?

I don't know much about him, other than he's been a football person, forever.
I think tv sports are boring and childish as all ****, though.

Yeah, how dare he express an honest opinion!

The regulations you listed don't have any effect, either...obviously.

Yeah, how dare he express an honest opinion!

Honest opinion? He read directly from an op ed by Jason Whitlock who btw, also says this....

Whitlock spoke out against the NFL’s handling of the aftermath of Jovan Belcher’s suicide and gun issues in his Sunday FoxSports.com column. During Martin’s podcast, he likened the NRA to the Ku Klux Klan and tied the group to the dangerous street culture that unfortunately dominates “so many black youths.”

Now come on....Do you think the NRA = the KKK? That isn't honest opinion, it is inflamatory Bull.
